Updated 2022 Winter Olympics Betting Analysis: Tuesday Events Recap and What to Bet On Wednesday

It was a wild Tuesday in Beijing with 10 Olympic gold medals handed out – the most ever. It makes sense that Wednesday will be a little quieter, but here’s a recap and what to look forward to for Wednesday, February 9th so you can continue with your Olympics Betting.

Winter Olympics Betting Rundown Wednesday, February 9th

What Has Already Happened

It really wasn’t a matter of Mikhaela Shiffrin losing the women’s alpine slalom (although she did fail to finish); it was more of Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova continuing her amazing run to capture the gold as the -105 favorite. Vlhova has already won five slalom events this World Cup season.

U.S.A.’s Chloe Kim and Shaun White both advanced to the halfpipe snowboarding finals after Tuesday’s qualifying runs. Kim finished first in qualifying and is a huge favorite to become the first woman to ever win two gold medals in the event. White needed a huge second run which he got, pushing him from 19th into 4th and into the finals.

36-year-old Lindsey Jacobellis picked up the first gold for the U.S.A. in snowboardcross. It was a huge win for Jacobellis as she can now put the 2006 Olympics that she had won until falling in the final stages behind her.

In another first for the Americans, Colby Stevenson took 1st in freestyle big air skiing, the inaugural time this event has been held in Olympic competition. Norway’s Birk Ruud took gold, with Sweden’s Henrik Harlaut getting the bronze.

Jessie Diggins also made history for the U.S. as the first woman to get an individual medal in cross-country skiing, capturing the bronze. Diggins was also part of a team (with Kikkan Randall) who won the country’s first gold medal in 2018.

Italy capped off a remarkable run in mixed curling, capturing their first gold medal in the event after an undefeated run.

The Netherlands dominated in speed skating, winning the gold and the silver, with Kjeld Nuis and Thomas Kroll setting record times.

Wednesday’s Competition Rundown

Men’s hockey gets underway on Wednesday, with the Russian Olympic Committee already beating Sweden 1-0. Later on in the day, Switzerland takes the ice as huge -434 favorites over Latvia.

Men’s curling also gets going with Minnesota’s John Chisholm tries to lead the Americans to a gold medal defense with an opening-round game against Russia.

Thursday will look to be the big day at the Olympics, where Chloe Kim will try to finish off her halfpipe gold medal, and Nathan Chen searches for gold in the men’s figure skating short program. Chen was very impressive in qualifying and had his path made clearer when Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu finished in 8th. He was expected to be Chen’s closest competitor.

Germany has climbed into the lead with five gold medals while Norway and Sweden are in a close second. The United States finally got on the board thanks to Lindsey Jacobellis, but that tally should start to climb in the next couple of days with Chen, Kim, and possibly even White ready to take their spot at the top of the podium.
