The top spot in the Super League ladder is on the line to highlight this weekend’s slate of rugby action from around the globe. We’ve also got a top four matchup on a smaller NRL docket so let’s take a look at some of the best upcoming matches to bet on the Rugby Odds.
Weekly Rundown of the Top Rugby Games to Must Bet On | July 5th Edition
St. Helen’s (-3.5) vs Wigan Warriors, Super League Saturday 11:45 AM ET
Fans will not be disappointed if the top two teams in the Super League repeat their battle from May when the Warriors eked out a 20-18 win over the Saints. St. Helen’s is atop the ladder at 14-3, but their lead has tightened after a 20-18 loss to Catalans last time out.
St. Helen’s had won five straight in this series prior to the loss in May, and now Wigan aims to show that they are a legit contender for the Super League crown that the Saints have won the last three seasons.
Catalans Dragons (-7.5) vs Warrington Wolves Super League Sunday 10:15 AM ET
Lost in the shuffle between the big St. Helen’s vs. Wigan matchup this weekend is the fact that Catalans will be right in the thick of things after what should be an easy win over the Wolves. The Dragons got the win over St. Helen’s and now sit in third place in the ladder at 12-5.
Warrington is just 6-11 on the season and have dropped five of their last six. The Dragons have been known to have slip up games though in recent losses to Castleford and Huddersfield, although those are top five teams on the ladder.
Cronulla Sharks vs Melbourne Storm (-1.5), NRL Thursday 5:50 AM ET
Any hope of catching Penrith atop the NRL ladder was probably blown for Melbourne in their 36-30 loss to the Sea Eagles last week. That snapped a three game win streak for the Storm who were looking in better form after the return of Ryan Papenhuyzen.
Melbourne had also beaten Manly 28-6 three rounds earlier, so there are some questions surrounding the Storm program. This presents a great opportunity for Cronulla to get the upset especially with the Sharks winning four of their last five.
Brisbane Broncos (-1.5) vs St. George Illawarra Dragons, NRL Sunday 2:05 AM ET
The other hotly contested contest in the NRL this weekend sees #5 Brisbane taking on the #8 dragons. Only one game separates the 9-6 Broncos and 8-7 St. George Illawarra in a bunched up middle of the NRL ladder. Only two games separate 5th place Brisbane and 11th place Canberra so a lot of teams can still be in – or out – of the top 8.
NRL Futures
With Melbourne’s loss last weekend this looks like Penrith is the official cream of the crop in the NRL. Of course anything can happen in the finals, but the Panthers at +125 to win the 2022 NRL seems like a steal on value.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
