Olympic Women’s Soccer Tournament Weekend Matches Betting Preview

Chile +1 ½ (+133) Vs Great Britain -1 ½ (-185)

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

For the first time since 2012, Great Britain’s Women’s Olympic Team has qualified. The British are ranked sixth in the world, which is why they’re favored to put a beating onto Chile on Wednesday. The Chileans don’t have much chance of keeping this close. Even though the British didn’t qualify for the Olympics in 2016, they’ve got some talent. Expect Britain to easily cover the handicap.

Soccer Pick: Great Britain

Brazil -181 Vs China +480

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

The seventh-ranked Brazilians are a solid favorite to get the victory over the tough Chinese side. The real question is does Brazil’s odds make the chalk an overlay or underlay. China doesn’t show a match since 2019. In China’s favor? It was a 0-0 draw with Brazil. The Brazilians should be much better in the rematch than they were in the last head-to-head. Brazil’s odds make them a slight overlay.

Soccer Pick: Brazil

USA -1 ½ (+131) Vs Sweden +1 ½ (-185)

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

Sweden is ranked fifth and the U.S. is a -1 ½ chalk. Don’t be fooled, Sweden could keep this close. But the Swedes are unplayable on the moneyline, the United States should go undefeated at the Olympics, and the odds on the handicap make Sweden an underlay. Lay the 1 ½ and hope the U.S. covers.

Soccer Pick: USA

Canada +387 Vs Japan -153

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

Japan should field the much better women’s soccer squad. Canada isn’t a horrible team. But Japan has ranked in the Top 10 for what feels like a decade. The Canadians could surprise. More than likely, Japan gets off the pitch with a 1-0 win.

Soccer Pick:  Japan

Netherlands -3 ½ (-120) Vs Zambia +3 ½ (+113)

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

Based on the odds, this is the biggest mismatch of the day. Zambia beat Chile 2-1 in their last match. The contest happened on Nov. 28. The Netherlands has played well in their last 5, winning three and losing twice. The losses were to Spain and Italy. The last match, a 7-0 win over Norway, happened on June 15. The Dutch can cover this spread.

Soccer Pick: Netherlands

New Zealand +1 ½ (-133) Vs Australia -1 ½ (-104)

  • When: Wednesday, July 21

Australia has a draw and 4 losses in their last 5. New Zealand has lost 5 straight. All of New Zealand’s matches happened in 2019. Australia shows a decent 0-1 loss to Japan in their last. Before the loss, Australia had drawn 0-0 with Sweden. The Aussies can beat New Zealand by more than a goal.

Soccer Pick: Australia

Men’s Olympic Soccer Winning Predictions The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil will commence with the opening ceremonies on Friday, Aug 5th, but there will actually be some action taking place before that colorful spectacle kicks things off. The Olympic soccer tournament actually gets stated a couple of days earlier, with the women set to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. We will take a closer look at their competition in another post, but for now, let’s start with the men, who will have their first set of games get underway on Thursday, August 4th. The betting odds for the men’s tournament are now live, and there are a few teams who might be able to get the gold this time around. Let’s take a look at some of the favorites, as well as their current sportsbook odds.

Men’s Olympic Soccer Winning Predictions

Brazil (-140)

The overwhelming favorite to win gold, and for very good reason. Forget that they are playing in front of their home fans for a second, and instead just look at the talent pool that they have to choose from. Brazil served notice that they were all in on the Olympics when they held Neymar out of the Copa America squad that played in the US. With Neymar and Gabriel Jesus leading the attack for Brazil, they are likely going to light things up on the score board. Very much the team to beat in this competition.

Argentina (+500)

Argentina will come into this tournament with a huge following since they are playing so close to home. The man to watch on this team is striker Angel Correa of Atletico Madrid. He is quick and deadly in front of goal. It’s the U-23 squads that play in this tournament, but there are a few over age players allowed. Argentina have chosen to add those players to the defense in hopes of cementing things at the back.

Germany (+500)

This will be the first appearance for Germany in the Olympic soccer tournament since 1988. They finished with a bronze at that event, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them be among the medals again here. The Germans have a knack for churning out great young talent, and this group is no exception. Keep an eye out for Max Meyer, an attacking midfielder in the mold of Lionel Messi.

Portugal (+800)

Can the Portugal U-23 players emulate the big boys by winning a major soccer championship in the summer? While this is certainly a talented squad, you have to feel that they might be a little overmatched if they have to face any of the aforementioned teams in the latter stages of the tournament. A possible medal candidate, though, but just not gold.

Nigeria (+1800)

If you are looking for a dark horse to put your money on, Nigeria might well be the way to go. They made it to the Olympics by winning the U-23 African Championship, and if Olympic soccer history has shown us anything, it’s that an African team generally always makes it to the late stages of the tournament. A distinct possibility of seeing this team in the semi-finals.
