Throughout the course of the regular season in NASCAR, we get a handful of races that move away from the standard oval and into some different territory. That includes dirt and road races, the latter of which we are getting this weekend. We will be covering all the action, but let’s get things started by focusing on the Xfinity Series and the running of the Sunoco Go Rewards 200. As you might expect, there are some Cup Series drivers dropping in to get some practice for their race on Sunday, and while that always has an impact on the betting odds, it is an Xfinity Series regular who is in as the favorite. Let’s take a closer look at who the bookies like for this race and their NASCAR Xfinity Series Odds.
NASCAR Xfinity Series Betting Preview for the 2022 Watkins Glen Race
AJ Allmendinger (+300)
As it stands right now, the NASCAR veteran is sitting 3rd in the driver standings, which means he is generally among the favorites on any given weekend. It is when the races move to a road course, though, that Allmendinger suddenly becomes the apple of the bookies eye. He has managed 3 wins this season, 2 of which came in road course races. That is something that cannot be ignored when you are looking at trying to pick the winner of this one. Allmendinger came close to winning at Watkins Glen last year, finishing 2nd in that one, which all adds up to him being a serious threat on Saturday.
Kyle Larson (+300)
The defending Cup Series champion is dropping into the Xfinity Series this weekend as a warm-up for the Sunday outing. It’s no real surprise that he is up among the favorites here, as Larson is another driver that seems to revel on the road courses. Over the past 2 years, Larson has raced in the Xfinity Series 7 times, winning 4 of those races and also picking up a 2nd place run at Road America a few weeks back. Larson has not been at his best this season, but he is always a threat at this level.
Ty Gibbs (+400)
We just mentioned that Larson finished 2nd in an Xfinity Series road race a few weeks ago. The man that he finished behind was Gibbs, who picked up his 4th win of the season in that one. He has since added to that win total, coming away with the win in Michigan last weekend, so this is a driver very much in form, which is obvious when you see that he is currently sitting atop the driver standings. That should be more than enough to make him a driver worth playing, but when you consider that he won this race last season, he becomes an even better proposition.
William Byron (+600)
After winning the Xfinity Series in 2017 in his first full season, Byron made the jump to the Cup Series. He has done quite well there and is having himself a solid season, with a pair of wins at the top level of NASCAR. He has only had 2 runs in the Xfinity Series in 2022, with a 2nd place run his best finish in those outings. Still, he has to be considered a threat and is certainly tempting at these odds.
