We are about a month away from the start of the 2023 World Superbike Championship season, which gives us some time to fill you in on the details and the riders who might be in the hunt to win it all. First of all, this form of bike racing differs from MotoGP in the bikes that are used. The machines you see in this sport are available to purchase and ride on the street, while the MotoGP bikes are modified in a way that makes them akin to F1 cars in that they would not be street legal. Right now, the 2023 season will consist of 12 different race venues, each containing 3 races to make a 36-race schedule. 11 of the 12 races and locations have been confirmed, with 1 still to come, so let’s look at the schedule first, to bet on their Superbike Odds for next season:
Round 1 – Australia Feb 24-26
Round 2 – Indonesia Mar 3-5
Round 3 – Holland Apr 21-23
Round 4 – Catalunya May 5-7
Round 5 – Emilia-Romagna Jun 2-4
Round 6 – UK Jun 30-Jul 2
Round 7 – Czech Republic Jul 28-30
Round 8 – France Sept 8-10

The Top Riders
As we plan to look ahead, it might not be a bad idea to take a little peek in the rearview to find the riders that made the biggest impact last season, so let’s do that.
Alvaro Bautista
When he first arrived in SBK, Bautista was with Ducati, finishing 2nd overall in his first season. He switched to Honda for a couple of years and struggled to make the top 10. Moving back to Ducati last season proved to be the best move he could make, as Bautista won the World Championship in a bit of a canter, winning 16 races and sewing things up with plenty of races to spare. Can he repeat as champion in 2023?
Toprak Razgatlioglu
The Turkish rider went into last season looking to defend the championship that he won the year prior, but he ended up coming up just short. Razgatliogu had a strong season in 2022, finishing 2nd overall and winning 14 races. It was a very solid showing that had him on pace to match his point total from the previous year, which had 2 more races, but he was up against an unstoppable Bautista. I expect he’ll be in the hunt again in 2023.
Jonathan Rea
One of the most successful riders in the sport, Rea went on a run that saw him win 6 straight world championships between 2015 and 2020. He has now gone back-to-back seasons without winning it all, but he was 2nd and 3rd, respectively, so it’s not as though all the magic has gone. This is a rider that I would absolutely expect to be in the hunt for a world championship this season, so do not sleep on Rea.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi
In his 5 seasons racing at the World Superbike level, Rinaldi has improved every single year. Last season, he finished 4th overall, which means that if he maintains his current trajectory, he will take another step forward in 2023. He had several podiums last season but no wins, so he will need to change that if he is to make a serious run at beating the men listed above.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
