The Truck Series has been fun to watch this season, as each passing week seems to deliver a new leader at the top of the driver standings.
Let’s take a look at the current top drivers in the standings of the NASCAR Truck Series Buckle Up South Carolina 200 from Darlington Raceway.

My Analysis
Will it be one of the drivers that has already graced the top spot through the opening 8 races of the season, or is someone going to emerge from the pack and go on a run that takes them all the way to the title? Only time will tell, so we are going to hold off from making that sort of prediction before we have more data to draw on. For now, all we can do is look ahead to the next race on the schedule, which goes this Friday night at Darlington with the running of the Buckle Up South Carolina 200.
^Corey Heim
Heim is back atop the driver standings after picking up his 2nd win of the season in Kansas last weekend. You have to say that he is more than deserving of his current status given that he has not been outside the top 10 in any of the 8 races we have had this season. It is that level of consistency that very often leads to a championship, although Heim will be the first to admit that there is still a lot of racing to come and that things can change quickly in this sport. Heim finished 8th on this track last season, so there is every reason to suggest that his top 10 streak will stay alive, but I think a top 5 finish is more likely.
^Christian Eckes
You look at what Heim has done this season, and you would believe that he is the clear favorite to win it all, but Eckes has stats that are eerily similar to that of the current leader. Eckes has also won 2 races this season, while falling outside of the top 10 just once in 8 races. I have a feeling that these two might be swapping spots more than once in the coming weeks and months. I also think that Eckes has a real shot at getting back atop the driver standings this weekend when you consider that he won in Darlington last year. Repeat, anyone?
^Nicholas Sanchez
Given what we have seen from Sanchez this season, it is easy to forget that this is just his 2nd full season at this level. He finished an impressive 6th overall in his debut season and followed that up with a win on opening day in Daytona. While he hasn’t won since, and has had some off days, Sanchez is still very much in the picture, sitting in 3rd overall right now. He finished outside the top 10 in Darlington last season, but I think he will be better this weekend.
^Ty Majeski
After making it to the Championship Round back in 2022, Majeski had a somewhat disappointing season last year, going put in the Round of 8. He is looking to bounce back in 2024 and is currently in the top 4 in the driver standings, although he is still also looking for his first win of the season. He has been on the podium 3 times, though, so it does feel as though a win is coming. Realistically, though, I think top 10 this weekend is the safest bet.

2022 Dead On Tools 200
While the Cup Series and Xfinity Series tend to race every single week, the schedule for the Truck Series is not quite so loaded. Even with that, we are now 6 races into the Truck Series season, and we have a very good battle going on at the top of the driver standings. It has been 3 weeks since the last race, but the drivers will be back in action in Darlington on Friday night. The truck drivers will be going 147 laps of the track in the Dead On Tools 200 in a race that looks to be pretty wide open. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 drivers in the Truck Series standings so you can place your bets against their NASCAR Truck Series odds. Will this weekend’s winner come from that group, or will someone come out of the pack to win?
NASCAR Truck Series Betting Preview for Dead On Tools 200 Race
Ben Rhodes
Building up momentum in sport is always a good way to achieve success, but that can be tough to do when you are only racing every couple of weeks. Rhodes picked up his first win of the season in the last race, but he has now had to wait 3 weeks to try and follow that up. That, though, does not appear to have been a problem for Rhodes this season, as he has landed in the top 5 in 5 of the 6 races run to this point. There were 2 races at Darlington last season, and while Rhodes was not a factor in the second race, he did finish 2nd in this corresponding race in 2021. His form is so good at the moment that he cannot be counted out in any race.
Chandler Smith
Smith had his first full season in the Trucks Series in 2021, and while it took him a minute to get going, he finished strong, winning 2 of the final 5 races. The feeling was that he might be ready to take another step forward this year, which is proving to be the case. Smith is sitting 2nd overall in the driver standings and already has a win under his belt, which he got in Las Vegas in the 2nd race of the year. He did not have a ton of success at Darlington last season, but he has improved greatly since those runs.
Stewart Friesen
Back in 2019, Friesen had a breakout season, finishing 4th overall in the Truck Series. He has taken a bit of a backward step since then and has actually failed to win a race since taking the checkered flag in the penultimate race of the 2019 season. He is still looking for that elusive win that might get him back on track, but Friesen has done enough this season to crack the top 3 in the driver standings. That includes a trio of runs in the top 10 in 2022. He has to be considered a bit of a dark horse on Friday night.
Zane Smith
After back-to-back seasons finishing 2nd overall, Zane Smith must feel that it is time for him to finally take the top spot. He has certainly come out strong in 2022 and has already picked up a couple of wins on the season. The downside here is that Smith has not had a ton of success at Darlington, but you also cannot ignore the fact that he is picking up wins.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
