The new NASCAR season is underway, although it may have proved to be a little disappointing for some race fans. MyBookie Sportsbook | 2024 NASCAR Truck Odds Fr8 208
Everyone was prepped and ready for the Daytona 500 on Sunday, but the weather moved in and ended up postponing the race until Monday, with William Byron eventually getting the win. The opening weekend is now in the rearview mirror, which means that it’s time to look ahead to the coming weekend. We will have you covered across the board, but let’s get the week started by taking a look at the upcoming Truck Series race. The race in question is the Fr8 208, which will be held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday at 2 PM EST, weather permitting. While we wait for the Truck Series odds for this race, let’s take a look at some drivers who are sure to be in the hunt.
Tyler Ankrum
Ankrum came into the new season as a bit of a longshot, with 8th being his best overall finish at this level. After 1 race, he is the points leader in the Truck Series after leading for 16 laps in the opening race of the season at Daytona. He finished 11th overall in that one and is probably going to be among the dark horses this weekend when the action shifts to Atlanta. It is going to be interesting to see if his start at Daytona is indicative of what’s to come or whether it was a one-off solid showing.

Nicholas Sanchez
It was a stellar first season for Sanchez in the Truck Series, as he made it all the way to 6th overall last year. While he didn’t win a race, he showed enough to suggest that he might be a player this season. That has certainly proven to be the case, as he went out and won the opening race in Daytona last weekend. The question now is whether he can build on that win, and you have to say that he probably can. Sanchez ran 2nd in Atlanta last season, so why can’t he have another strong showing this year?

Christian Eckes
Eckes is another driver that is coming off a career year, finishing 5th overall in 2023. He had 4 wins last season, including a pair in the playoffs, suggesting that he might well be ready to take another big step forward in 2024. He saw his season get off to a solid enough start with a 10th place finish in Daytona last weekend, which, in fairness, was a disappointing run when you consider that he had finished 3rd in each of his last 2 season openers. Looking ahead to this weekend, though, he has to be considered a potential winner after taking the checkered flag in Atlanta last season.

Bret Holmes
Picking winners based on a single race is always tough, so we are including a few guys who would still very much be considered the dark horse variety. Holmes had his first full season in the Xfinity Series last year, finishing 23rd overall and failing to land in the top 10 in a single race during 2023. There is not a lot to like there, but he had a fantastic showing in Daytona last weekend, finishing 4th overall. Again, you have to wonder if this was a blip on the radar or a sign of something bigger to come. We will just have to wait and see.

Matt Crafton
Between 2013 and 2019, Crafton was at the top of his game, winning the Truck Series Championship 3 times during that stretch. While he has cooled off in recent years, he is not totally off the pace, landing 9th overall in each of the last 2 seasons. While he has been a consistent playoff performer, Crafton has struggled to win and has not taken a checkered flag in the last 3 seasons. He got the season off to a decent start, finishing 7th in Daytona, but he seems like a longshot to win this weekend, although a top 10 finish might be worth taking on as a wager.

Corey Heim
2023 was a big year for Heim, delivering a performance that saw him make it all the way to the final four in the Truck Series. He did come up short in the final race of the year, settling for 4th overall in the final driver standings, but that season suggests there is better to come from Heim. He got the new season off to a fantastic start, landing on the podium at Daytona, and he now has a chance to do even better this weekend. Heim was not great in Atlanta last season, but he did win there in 2022, so I would certainly have him in with a real shot at winning this race. At the very least, I would probably play him to land in the top 5.

Ty Majeski
The first full season for Majeski came in 2022 and it was a great one. He finished 4th overall in his debut season, with many thinking he would challenge for the title in 2023. While he had a decent year, he went out at the Round of 8, setting for 8th overall when all was said and done. While that was certainly not a terrible showing, we still expect more from Majeski, but will we get it this season? It’s impossible to get that answer based on a single race, but his 15th place finish in the season opener is not a showing that delivers a ton of confidence. Still, I think he could drive his way into the top 10 this weekend.
Every driver seems to have a track that they always seem to perform well on, so with that in mind, I am taking Christian Eckes to get the win in Atlanta this weekend. At the very least, I think we will see him land on the podium.
