We are getting down to the serious part of the season in the Truck Series, as there are just 2 races remaining before we cut the field and get down to the top 10 heading into the playoffs. The O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 will be held on the Mid-Ohio road course, so it is going to be a real challenge for the drivers as they jockey for position heading into the postseason. As is always the case when we move from the oval to a road course, there are some drivers who are better suited to the challenge than others. That is something you see when you look at the odds for this one, although some of the drivers listed among the NASCAR Truck Series Betting favorites have been solid all season long. Let’s take a look at some of those drivers.
NASCAR Truck Series Betting Preview for O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio Race
John H. Nemechek (+400)
Nemechek is one driver that doesn’t need to worry about missing the cut ahead of the playoffs, as he is currently sitting in 2nd overall in the standings. While that is certainly good, he has perhaps not been as dominant as many fans expected him to be this season. Nemechek has a single win on the season, although he does also have 4 podium finishes, but when you consider that he had 5 wins last year, this does still feel like a bit of a drop off. Given his current form, I might well be looking elsewhere when it comes time to wager.
Zane Smith (+500)
While there have been no wins for Smith in recent weeks, he has been consistently among the leaders, landing on the podium in 3 straight races. That, combined with the 3 wins that he has already managed this season suggests that it’s only a matter of time before the leader in the driver standings gets back to winning ways. One thing to note here is that one of the wins that he delivered this season came on a road course at the Circuit of the Americas. I think all of that adds up to Smith taking the checkered flag this weekend.
Ben Rhodes (+600)
The defending Truck Series champion has not been having a great time of it of late, but he is still up among the leaders in the driver standings, sitting in 3rd overall. Still, you have to say that a single win on the season is perhaps not what we expected from Rhodes this year, but we all know that it’s tough to win it all in back-to-back seasons. It is worth remembering that Rhodes won the championship last season despite not picking up a victory after winning the opening 2 races. With that in mind, he may not be the favorite here, but he still cannot be counted out.
Carson Hocevar (+700)
At just 19 years of age, Hocevar is very much at the start of his NASCAR career. This is just his second full season in the Truck Series after finishing 10th overall in his first full year at this level. While he is still looking for his first win in the truck series, he has come close a few times this season, landing on the podium in 3 different races. Definitely a longshot here, but one to keep an eye on for sure.
