Summer is coming to an end, with the Olympic Games now in the rearview mirror.
During the last few weeks, the WNBA has been dark, with some of the top players heading to France to take part in the Games.
My Analysis
They are all returning home with a gold medal, but there is no time to rest on their laurels, as it’s back to the business of the WNBA this week.
It is going to be interesting to see how players react to the break. Will the Olympic stars come back on fire with a bit of a hangover?
Will the players who stayed home have some rust, or will they be ready to get back to action.
We will find out soon enough, but for now, let’s look at some of the best games to bet on this week.
^Phoenix Mercury at Chicago Sky
Thursday, August 15, 2024, 8:00 PM, Prime Video | As it stands right now, both of these teams are sitting in a playoff spot, but they are both going to need a strong second half of the season to stay there.
The Mercury are in 6th right now, 2 ½ games up on the Sky, so they will be looking to open up a wider gap with a win on the road.
They have had their problems away from home, going 5-8 this season.
The Sky are in the final playoff spot right now and are 3 games up on their closest rival. The Chicago Sky have not been great at home, going 4-8 in their own building.

Seattle Storm at Atlanta Dream
Friday, August 16, 2024, 7:30 PM, ION | For the teams sitting below the cut line, time is running out to make a move and get back into the postseason.
That is what the Atlanta Dream are dealing with now, sitting down in 9th, 3 games out of the #8 spot.
They closed the first half of the season by losing 8 in a row, so maybe the break served them well.
The Seattle Storm are sitting comfortably in 4th and were hot going into the break, winning 8 of their last 10 games.
^New York Liberty at Las Vegas Aces
Saturday, August 17, 2024, 4:00 PM, CBS | This is easily one of the best games of the week, with the current #1 team in the league going against a team looking to three-peat this season.
The Liberty headed into the break sitting at the top of the WNBA with a 21-4 record, which included a 9-3 record away from home.
The Aces are down in the #5 spot, 4 ½ games out of the lead, but they were strong heading into the Olympic break, winning 8 of their last 10 games.
The Aces have gone 8-5 in their own building.
^Connecticut Sun at Atlanta Dream
Sunday, August 18, 2024, 3:00 PM, ESPN 3 | We have already spoken about the Atlanta Dream and their need for a win, so the fact that they are listed twice in this preview tells you just how difficult the next few days are going to be for them.
Sure, they are playing at home, but at 3-8, they have not lit things up in their own building.
They will have another tough one against the Connecticut Sun, who are currently sitting in the #2 spot.
They have gone 8-3 in road games this season.

WNBA Week 11 | July 11th – July 15th, 2023
Connecticut Sun vs Atlanta Dream
Footprint Center | Phoenix, AZ
The Sun and the Dreams are both in the top half of the WNBA standings. Both teams also were on a hot stretch heading into the break. Connecticut has won three straight and moved into a tie for second place in the WNBA with the New York Liberty.
Atlanta has won six straight games and is in a tie with Washington for fourth place. The Dream and Sun will play a matinee on Thursday before following it up with a night game on Saturday. Both teams have split a pair of matchups against each other so far this season.
Atlanta has played a fast-paced game this season, seeing 12 of its 19 games go over the total this season. The Dream is 11-8 against the spread. Connecticut is 11-8-1 against the spread and has seen the total go over in 13 of its 20 games.

New York Liberty at Washington Mystics
Barclays Center | Brooklyn, NY
The Liberty are finally playing like the super team people envisioned them to be. New York has won four straight games and is in a virtual tie with the Sun atop the Eastern Conference. The Liberty have won four straight and eight of its past ten games.
New York hasn’t had an easy time beating Washington this season. The Mystics won the first meeting between the two teams and only lost the rematch by one point. Washington has seen a lot of its top players in-and-out of the lineup the past few weeks with injuries, including Elena Delle Donne. Washington is 9-10 against the spread, while New York is 8-10 against the spread. This matchup will be Friday night on Ion TV.

LA Sparks at Minnesota Lynx
Target Center | Minneapolis, MN
The Lynx have won six of its past ten games to move into the seventh playoff spot. Minnesota, however, hasn’t been good at home, only putting up a 4-7 record. This Thursday night meeting on Prime Video will be important for Minnesota to maintain its spot in the playoff standings.
The Lynx have won all three of its meeting against the Sparks, including two defensive slugfests in the team’s last two meetings. Neither team was able to crack more than 70 points during the team’s previous meeting.
The Sparks have had plenty of issues with injuries this season. Only Dearcia Hamby and Zia Cooke have played in all 20 of the team’s games. Nneka Ogwumike leads the team in scoring at 19.8 points per game, while Lexie Brown, who has been limited to nine games this season due to injury and illness, contributes 13.3 points per game.
