This weekend, the WRC will head to Greece for the next rally on the schedule, the first of just 4 remaining on the 2022 season. If you look at the current driver standings, it would be all too easy to declare that the race for the world championship is over. There is, though, a lot that can happen over the course of 4 races, and we have already seen a bit of a momentum shift happen over the last few races. For those chasing the leader, these final races are critical to making this thing interesting as we head down the stretch. Will the current leader hold on and take it all, or will someone emerge from the pack and make a late charge? Let’s take a look at the WRC Odds favorites to win in Greece this weekend.
2022 EKO Acropolis Rally Greece Analysis and Preview | WRC Betting Picks
Kalle Rovanpera
After going on a run where he won 5 of 6 races, it looked as though Rovanpera was going to cruise to the championship and have it wrapped up early. He has no failed to win in each of the last 2 races, including picking up just 5 points in the Belgian rally last time out. While that has seen his lead reduced somewhat, Rovanpera is still 72 points clear at the top. One more win might well be enough to put this thing away, but will it come in Greece? He won there last year, so you certainly have to like his chances.
Ott Tanak
Just when you though the race to win the world championship was over, Ott Tanak went on a run that added a little excitement to the proceedings. He has won 2 in a row and 3 of the last 5 rallys to edge a little closer to the lead, but there is a growing sense that unless Rovanpera really struggles through the final 4 races, Tanak will potentially need to be about as close to perfect as it gets if he is to push the race all the way to the final weekend of the season. He ran 2nd in this race last season, so maybe his great run of form will continue.
Elfyn Evans
We are getting to the point now, after looking at the top 2 drivers, where the remaining guys are really only able to take the lesser spoils. Evans is sitting in 3rd overall on 116 points, which has him sitting 87 points off the pace. Mathematically he could still come from behind to win it all, but the reality is that its more than a little unlikely to play out that way. The bigger issue is that Evans has yet to win this season, but he does have 4 2nd place finishes to his name.
Thierry Neuville
There are only 4 drivers who have cracked the 100-point mark this season, with Neuville being the last of them, sitting on 106 points at this late stage of the season. Neuville has been one of the most consistent drivers in the WRC in recent seasons, never finishing worse than 4th overall in the past 6 seasons. It looks like it will be more of the same in 2022, and while he won’t win it all, he will be pushing for as high a finish as possible.
