We are officially at the midway point of the Xfinity Series regular season, with 13 races gone and 13 more to come.
The first of those remaining races comes this weekend with the running of the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250, which will be held at the Sonoma Raceway on Saturday at 8 PM EST.

My NASCAR Xfinity Series Analysis
The first half of the season has certainly been fun to watch, with a number of different lead changes at the top of the driver standings. The current leader is a familiar name, which we will get into in just a moment when we talk about the potential favorites for this weekend’s race. Given how tight things are at the top, it would not be a surprise to see a change in the standings again after the Sonoma race, so let’s get into the current top 4.
^Cole Custer Xfinity Odds +1100
The regular season is a little more forgiving in that drivers don’t really need to win to be at or near the top of the standings. The perfect example of that can be found by looking at defending champion Cole Custer, who has the #1 spot right now without having won a single race this season. While the lack of wins may be alarming to some, it is worth remembering that he had just 1 victory at this stage of the season last year before going on to win it all. He finished 6th in this race last season, so the top 5 seems a fair bet.
^Austin Hill Xfinity Odds +1850
Hill spent some time at the top of the driver standings after an amazing start to the season. He won the opening 2 races of the year and did not finish worse than 4th overall through the first 5 races of the season. That was a pace that was always going to be impossible to maintain, and despite a couple of very solid runs since that start, Hill has fallen off the pace quite a bit. He could use a solid run to get some mojo back. He finished 8th in Sonoma last season.
^Chandler Smith Xfinity Odds +5200
Smith is another driver that got off to a blazing start but has cooled off in recent weeks. Through the first 7 races of the season, Smith picked up a pair of wins and never finished worse than 8th during that run. In the 6 races since, he has only cracked the top 10 once, so he needs a good run to try and recapture that early form. Given his current form and a 14th place finish in Sonoma last season, I’m not so sure that this is the race where he will deliver his best.
^Justin Allgaier Xfinity Odds +1100
If there is one thing you can count on in the Xfinity Series, it is that Allgaier will usually be up among the leaders throughout the season. Despite a high level of consistency over a lot of years in this sport, Allgaier has yet to win it all, but like clockwork, he is once again in place to be in the mix, sitting 4th in the driver standings right now. He has just 1 win this season, but he is coming off an impressive 2nd place run last weekend. I think he is a good top 5 pick for this race.

2023 DoorDash 250
The NASCAR season continues to roll on as we draw ever closer to the playoffs. There is still a lot of racing to come before we get there, though, starting with a trip to California this weekend for the DoorDash 250 at Sonoma Raceway. We are talking about the Xfinity Series here, with this particular race set to begin at 8 PM EST on Saturday night. As we do every week, we are going to take a look at the current favorites for this race, keeping in mind that we will have a Cup Series driver taking part, which always has an impact on the odds. With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at the odds for the Xfinity Series DoorDash 250.

Kyle Larson
NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +240
It is not surprising to see a Cup Series driver in as the favorite when they drop in to race with the Xfinity Series. Larson has raced once at this level in the 2023 season, picking up the win at Darlington, so the expectation is that he will win again without breaking too much of a sweat. I’m not so sure that is the case, though, as Larson has not been at his best in the Cup Series this year. Sure, this is a bit of a drop down in class and he has won regularly when making this move, but I am still not totally sold on him winning this one outright.
AJ Allmendinger
NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +265
The bookies seem to agree with my assessment of Larson, as they don’t really have him as a clear favorite in this race/ After 2 full seasons with the Xfinity Series, where he finished 4th and 5th, respectively, Allmendinger moved back to the Cup Series for the 2023 season. He has been very much middle of the pack there for the most part, but he did pick up the win in the one race he returned to Xfinity for earlier in the year, although that one came on a road course. Still, given his success at this level, he cannot be ignored.
Ty Gibbs
NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +500
This seems to be the weekend of the Cup Series driver, as we have yet another one dropping down for this race. Gibbs won the Xfinity Series Championship last year in his first full season at this level and immediately bolted for the Cup Series. He has had some top 10 runs over there this season, but he is still looking for his first win. He has raced in a pair of Xfinity Series races this season, finishing top 5 in both races, but not taking a checkered flag. He looks like a definite top 5 pick here.
Cole Custer
NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +960
Finally, we get out first full-time Xfinity Series driver on the bookies board, and while Custer does have some stiff competition this weekend, he is definitely worth taking a look at. He has been in the top 5 in 6 of the last 7 races, falling just outside in the other, and is coming off a win last time out. I would definitely take a top 5 shot with Custer.
