Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship Betting Analysis and Predictions
Betting Favorites: Kansas Jayhawks and Baylor Bears
Going into the tournament, the Kansas Jayhawks are the betting favorite. They hold the #1 seed and will play the winner of the first game on Thursday at 3 p.m. (ET). The Jayhawks have +200 odds currently to win the conference tournament.
The Jayhawks shared the regular-season title with the Baylor Bears. The Bears also have +200 odds coming into the tournament to share with the Jayhawks at the top. Baylor starts the conference tournament with a game against Oklahoma on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. (ET).
The Jayhawks had a roller coaster of a finish to this regular season with four straight wins before back-to-back losses from Baylor and TCU, before finishing the season with two wins. The last regular-season game was a dandy against Texas at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks beat the Longhorns in overtime to avenge the loss earlier in the season in Austin, Texas.
It is very surprising to still see the Baylor Bears as co-regular season champions after everything they have been through. They knew coming in that it would not be easy as the defending National Champions, but after everything they have lost, it is amazing to see them still shining at the big stage.
Sleeper Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders
When talking about a team that has lost a lot, the Texas Tech Red Raiders had a whirlwind of an offseason after Chris Beard left to go coach at Texas. They have battled back this season and currently have the third-best odds going into the tournament. Not often is a three-seed considered a sleeper pick, but with the two powerhouses at #1 and #2, Texas Tech will be battling for a shot at the championship.
Losing two of their last three games was not how they wanted to end the season, but they have to look past that now. The Red Raiders are in a great position to contend when it comes to the Big 12 Championship. It will take a complete team effort next week, but do not be surprised to see Texas Tech make a run.
The Red Raiders have +340 odds to win the Big 12 Championship.
Long Shot: Oklahoma Sooners
This may come as a surprise, but this team can be dangerous down the stretch. It would take a complete shock to win their first game against Baylor but Oklahoma has quite the March Madness experience.
Head coach Porter Moser certainly knows something about making a run as an underdog in March. Not to mention the role of the Groves brothers who darn near pulled off a miracle last year for Eastern Washington, when they had Kansas on the ropes in the first round.
The Sooners have +5000 odds to win the Big 12 Championship next week.
