Orlando City vs Cavalry FC
Football Odds: Houston -0.5 / O/U 2.5
Tuesday, February 27 at 6:00 pm ET
Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando, Florida, USA
Why Bet on Cavalry FC to beat Orlando City
Although Cavalry bombed in what seemed like their first recorded match, at least it was their first for the major sports networks, there’s a chance for the Canadian squad to get it done in Orlando on Tuesday.
The reason is simple. OC City has a massive 3 goals to 0 lead. There’s no reason for Orlando City to push the attack in this. So if Orlando plays a calm, defensive game, who knows? Maybe, Cavalry gets it done.
Why Bet on Orlando City to beat Cavalry FC
Orlando City is leap years better than Cavalry. The MLS team took just 4 shots on goal but managed 3 scores.
Not only that, but Orlando played Cavalry in Langford. This match is in Orlando City. Even if OC City starts their second string, they can beat Cavalry.
Orlando City vs Cavalry FC Final Betting Prediction
On paper, Orlando City easily wins this. But Orlando may not be all in for the victory. It makes no sense to injury a star player in a Champions Cup match versus a team that they’ve got a 3 goals to 0 lead.
Orlando City is likely to be in defensive mode throughout. When odds arrive, consider backing the draw.

Philadelphia Union vs Saprissa
Football Odds: Houston -0.5 / O/U 2.5
Tuesday, February 27 at 8:15 pm ET
Subaru Park, Chester, Pennsylvania, USA
Why Bet on Saprissa to beat Philadelphia Union
Saprissa was a massive underdog in the first match. But the San Jose, Costa Rica squad played great soccer.
Philadelphia Union got the win. However, it was by a single goal. Heading into this match, Saprissa has a ton of confidence and Philly U has to be thinking they underperformed or maybe aren’t as solid of a favorite in this matchup as they thought.
Why Bet on Philadelphia Union to beat Saprissa
Soccer teams in Costa Rica play well. The nation is small, but they’ve got some excellent players. So it’s no wonder Philadelphia Union had to work hard for the win.
Things should be easier for the MLS squad on Tuesday because they take on their rivals in Philadelphia. Not only that, but Saprissa must travel a long way for this match.
Philadelphia Union vs Saprissa Final Betting Prediction
Saprissa stepped it up in the first match when losing by just a goal in a high scoring 3-2 match, but this is an entirely different situation. Philadelphia Union is an MLS team at home on Tuesday versus a Costa Rican squad that must go a long way to take on their rivals.
Saprissa shouldn’t be nearly as sharp while Philly U will play great in front of their fans. Philadelphia wins and should cover any spread line.
Philadelphia Union vs Saprissa

Houston Dynamo FC vs St. Louis City FC
Football Odds: Houston -0.5 / O/U 2.5
Tuesday, February 27 at 10:30 pm ET
Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, Texas, USA
Why Bet on St. Louis City to beat Houston Dynamo
After 4 straight losses, St. Louis played one of their to games of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo in the first leg. For sure, St. Louis had an advantage because the match happened on their grass.
Still, SL City got the win. On Tuesday, St. Louis can hang back and wait for Houston to make a mistake. Then once the mistake arrives, St. Louis can counter for the winning goal.
Why Bet on Houston Dynamo to beat St. Louis City
The loss to St. Louis was Houston’s second straight defeat. The Dynamo don’t often lose 3 straight games.
Also, even though St. Louis won, overall, Houston is the better team. The Dynamo are a contender for the MLS Cup while St. Louis isn’t. Houston steps it up on their grass.
Houston Dynamo vs St. Louis City Final Betting Prediction
In 3 head-to-head matches, St. Louis City has beaten Houston twice and drawn once. History suggests that the road squad in this, and likely underdog, gets it done.
But Houston is the better team. Also, St. Louis’ victory over the Dynamo came after a 4 match losing streak. Give the nod to the home team.
Houston Dynamo FC vs St. Louis City FC
CONCACAF Betting Pick: Houston Dynamo | Odds for CONCACAF Champions Cup

FC Cincinnati vs Cavalier SC
Football Odds: FC Cincinnati -2 / O/U 3
Wednesday, February 28 at 7:00 pm ET
TQL Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Why Bet on Cavalier SC to beat FC Cincinnati
With a 2 goals to 0lead, Cincinnati mustn’t have to do much to beat Jamaican Premier League squad Cavalier on the aggregate. In fact, Cincinnati may not even have to score a goal to get the aggregate victory.
Because of that, much like in the Cavalry versus Orlando City match on Tuesday, Cavalier could sneak in a late goal and steal the single game victory.
Why Bet on FC Cincinnati to beat Cavalier SC
Also like in Orlando City versus Cavalry, FC Cincinnati is a much better team than Cavalier. FC Cincinnati, like OC City, could start their second string unit and still manage a victory over Cavalier.
That’s how much better the MLS team is than the Jamaican Premier squad.
FC Cincinnati vs Cavalier SC Final Betting Prediction
Cavalier will give it their all, but they just aren’t good enough to hang with one of the best teams in Major League Soccer. Even though FC Cincinnati will show a defensive posture in the early going, Cavalier will take a few bad shots that should lead to Cincinnati scoring opportunities on the counter. The home side prevails.
FC Cincinnati vs Cavalier SC

Nashville SC vs Moca FC
Football Odds: Nashville SC -2.5 / O/U 3.5
Wednesday, February 28 at 9:15 pm ET
GEODIS Park, Nashville, Tennessee, USA
Why Bet on Moca to beat Nashville
MLS teams have games coming up this weekend. So Nashville, especially with a 3 goals to 0 lead, won’t be overly motivated to take it to Moca in this.
Moca could be much more aggressive than they showed. If they are, they might get a goal, likely late, that sends them home losers on the aggregate but provides a single game victory.
Why Bet on Nashville to beat Moca
Like Orlando City and FC Cincinnati, Nashville is much better than their opponent. The home team in this could, like their MLS peers, star their second string players and come out ahead on the final regulation whistle.
Also, if Moca is more aggressive, Nashville should see plenty of counter attack possibilities.
Nashville SC vs Moca FC Final Betting Prediction:
Nashville versus Moca is one of those games that we can’t overthink. Sure, Moca could get lucky because Nashville isn’t paying attention.
But in reality, Nashville should cover whatever handicap the home side faces. Nashville may not play their starters and they may not be in attack mode, but they’re still good enough to beat Moca by 3 to 4 goals.
Nashville SC vs Moca FC

New England Revolution vs Independiente de la Chorrera
Football Odds: New England -1.5 / O/U 2.5
Thursday, February 29 at 8:15 pm ET
Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA
Why Bet on Independiente de la Chorrera to beat New England Revolution
Panamanian team Independiente de la Chorrera played an excellent match in the stunning 1-goal loss to New England Revolution in the first leg.
Independiente yielded possession 34.4% to over 65% and allowed New England to shoot 21 times but yielded a single goal. If Independiente frustrates the Revolution again, who knows what might happen?
Why Bet on New England Revolution to beat Independiente de la Chorrera
Although New England only beat Independiente by a single goal in the first leg, the MLS team dominated, taking 6 shots on goal from the 21 and controlling possession throughout.
More luck in the second leg means should yield more Revolution goals.
New England Revolution vs Independiente de la Chorrera Final Betting Prediction
Let’s call the first match for what it was. Independiente de la Chorrera got lucky. New England took 6 shots on goal to Independiente’s 2.
The Revolution secured 10 corner kicks and Independiente secured 2. In every phase of the game, New England rocked. On Thursday, the Revolution roll to a multiple goal victory.

Saprissa vs Philadelphia Union
Tuesday, February 20th at 10:00 pm ET
Estadio Ricardo Saprissa, San José, Costa Rica
Saprissa is a quality club in the Costa Rican Primera Division. But although teams in the Costa Rican League aren’t bad, they’re not on the level of MLS squads.
Lines makers should set spread line odds on Philadelphia that makes P. Union playable. Philly should have no trouble beating Saprissa by at least 2. A 3 goal victory isn’t out of the question.

Independiente de la Chorrera vs New England Revolution
Wednesday, February 21st at 8:00 pm ET
Estadio Universitario F.C., Penonome, Panama
Lines makers may not set odds when Independiente de la Chorrera hosts New England Revolution. Independiente shows matches from 2019 through 2021 in their latest form cycle. They didn’t play well in those matches.
So Chorrera should have no chance of keeping this close aginast New England Revolution, a quality MLS squad. If there’s a handicap spread line, lay it.

Cavalry FC vs Orlando City SC
Wednesday, February 21st at 10:00 pm ET
Starlight Stadium, Langford, Canada
Cavalry FC shows zero matches, which means they qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup by playing in local games. Obviously, it’s going to be difficult for oddsmakers to set spread or money lines.
Orlando City should rock Cavalry. So if a line does land, and you want to bet this game, back the MLS team over the squad with no recorded matches.

Moca FC vs Nashville SC
Thursday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm ET
Estadio Cibao Fútbol Club, Santiago, Dominican Republic
If odds land and you want to be brave, back Moca to either force a draw or take the goals on Moca. If you really want to be brave, back Moca to win this in regulation.
Nashville travels to the Dominican Republic where Moca resides. That’s the first thing to consider. The second is that the heavy road chalk is on a 3-match losing streak versus NY Red Bulls and Orlando City in 2 straight. Taking a big swing on Moca makes sense.

Cavalier SC vs FC Cincinnati
Thursday, February 22nd at 9:00 pm ET
Independence Park, Kingston, Jamaica
Cavalier is a Jamaican Premier League squad. Jamaica has an okay CONCACAF national team, but their league doesn’t come close to MLS.
Not only that, but Cincinnati is one of Major League Soccer’s best clubs. Like with most of this week’s CONCACAF Champions Cup Round 1 matches, lay the goals if lines makers set spread line odds.

When: Thursday, March 9 at 8:00 pm ET

Why Bet on CD Motagua versus Pachuca?
Honduran Liga Nacional squad CD Motagua is in excellent form. Motagua hasn’t lost a match in any of their last 5.
The home team in this has won 2 straight after drawing in 3 straight. Since the match happens in Honduras, the hot home team has a significant edge.
Why Bet on Pachuca versus CD Motagua?
For starters, Pachuca plays in a much better league than CD Motagua. The Honduran Liga Nacional doesn’t compare to the Mexican Liga BBVA MX.
Second, Pachuca broke a 2-match losing streak in their last. The road team in this beat quality club America 3-0 on March 4.
Final Betting Analysis: Pachuca at CD Motagua
CD Motagua will be fired up but Pachuca is the deeper and better club. The Mexican Liga squad turned their form around in the victory over America.
Expect Pachuca to keep the good times going with a road win against their CONCACAF Champions League rivals.

When: Thursday, March 9 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: Alejandro Morera Soto, Alajuela, Costa Rica
TV / Streaming: Local
Why Bet on Alajuelense versus Los Angeles Football Club?
Alajuelense has won 4-of-5. The Costa Rican club is on fire with wins against Herediano, Grecia, Cartagines, and Guadalupe.
In the 4 wins, Alajuelense outscored their opponents 16 to 2. In addition, this happens on Alajuelense’s pitch, which should give them a slight edge.
Why Bet on Los Angeles Football Club versus Alajuelense?
LAFC is the best team in a much better league than the league in which Alajuelense plays. The Los Angeles Football Club not only won the MLS title last season, but also improved during the offseason.
LAFC’s acquisitions make them the favorite to win the MLS Championship. Also, the Los Angeles Football Club, like Alajuelense, is in excellent form. LAFC is on a 4 match winning streak with victories against LA Galaxy, Austin FC, Philadelphia Union, and the Portland Timbers.
Final Betting Analysis: Los Angeles Football Club at Alajuelense
Costa Rica produces very good soccer players. The nation sent a team to the World Cup in 2022, which tells us Alajuelense is a solid team.
But LAFC is good enough to hang with some decent UEFA club teams. The Los Angeles Football Club is legit. Decent European talent and homegrown U.S. star players dot the roster.
Alajuelense will play tough but LAFC gets it done. If the handicap shows L.A. -3.5 goals, consider backing Alajuelense. But if the handicap is -1.5 to -2.5 on LAFC, we have to lay the number.
Soccer Pick: Los Angeles Football Club -1.5 to -2.5 | Bet CONCACAF Champions League Today

What: Round of 16 · Leg 1 of 2
When: Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Estadio Cibao, Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic
The first match on the Tuesday schedule in the CONCACAF Champions League features Austin FC, as they take on Haitian side Violette AC. Violette has won this tournament before, all the way back in 1984. They are unlikely to do so again, but they will hope to start their campaign this time around with a surprising result over debutantes Austin FC.
For Austin FC, and the rest of the MLS teams in this tournament, the question is always going to be how seriously they take the CONCACAF Champions League. While the Club World Cup is a nice reward for winning this tournament, MLS teams have not always put their best into this event, especially in the early stages. On the road in Haiti, it will be interesting to see if Austin FC puts any of its key players into this match and how their lineup choices impact their chances.

What: Round of 16 · Leg 1 of 2
When: Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 8:00 pm ET

Another MLS team set to go on the road to face an opponent from Central America is the Philadelphia Union. They will take on Alianza FC from El Salvador to open up their CONCACAF Champions League knockout campaign. The outcome of this match could also depend on how much stock Philadelphia puts into the proceedings, as they should beat this team handily, but you never know what kind of lineup an MLS team will use in this tournament.
The Union have split their first two matches of this MLS season, getting a win in their opener against the Columbus Crew before losing to Inter Miami. Alianza, meanwhile, has yet to lose in their club campaign in El Salvador, winning five matches and settling for a draw in four matches as well. This could be a tougher game than anticipated for last season’s MLS Cup runners-up on the road.

What: Round of 16 · Leg 1 of 2

The final match on the Tuesday schedule in the CONCACAF Champions League pits Orlando City against UANL Tigres of Liga MX. Mexican clubs have dominated this tournament historically, winning 13 of the 14 iterations of the event since it became the CONCACAF Champions League. Tigres will look to continue that trend by kicking off their campaign with a home win over an opponent from MLS.
This MLS season has been good to Orlando City in the early going, as they have four points from their first two games. They beat the New York Red Bulls in their opener, before splitting the points with Cincinnati in their second match. Getting any sort of result in this match would certainly be encouraging, given the history between Mexican and American clubs in this tournament.

The boys from Texas lost the opening game 3-0, which was a massive sensation and one of the biggest surprises of the week in the soccer world. Even though the MLS side played with a mixed lineup, such humiliation was unacceptable due to a massive difference in quality and finances, which doesn’t always guarantee success, but usually does.
The good thing for Austin FC was a quick bounce back following the defeat and a victory on the road in Salt Lake against Real, 1-2. This was their third event in the past four in which three or more goals took place.
What happened at Port-au-Prince wasn’t expected even by the hosts. This team has a colorful background and was even the CONCACAF Champions Cup winner in 1984, but the competition was significantly weaker at the time.
They are the reigning Caribbean Club Champions, who now have four straight wins on the international stage, though with the previous one coming last year.
It would be another massive sensation to see Austin not winning here, and since they have a home-court edge, they should even be able to cover the gap from the first meeting. They probably won’t underestimate the rivals this time.

Unlike Austin, Philadelphia Union stayed unbeaten in its first leg, which was against Alianza DC in El Salvador. The Union played without goals at the Estadio Cuscatalan in San Salvador, though, having a few chances to get back home with a win in its bag.
Afterward, they had a very tough game at home against Chicago Fire, which they managed to win with a minimal score, 1-0, as Joaquin Torres netted in the last minute of the regulation.
As for the guests from El Salvador, they are an adamant and challenging team that prefers a low pace and implements plenty of tactical variations, usually defensive-minded.
Alianza hasn’t been defeated since late January, and throughout that period, most of their games have seen under 2.5 goals, and they keep clean sheets.
For sure, Alianza comes to Philly to defend and waits for the opportunity to strike from the counter-attack. The Union knows how to deal with rivals like this, which is why the bookies see them as massive favorites.

Atlas is in very poor shape, and losing to Olimpia in Tegucigalpa 4-1 was nothing spectacular for many of its fans. The Mexican side completely lost its direction over the past few weeks, and they are in one horrible place at the moment.
Eleven games without a victory, of which five were defeats, clearly indicate that this unit needs radical changes. Atlas struggles to deliver in all the areas on the field, but the attack is by far the worst, as it failed to score in four of the past five games at home.
Olimpia lost 2-0 this weekend to Marathon in the domestic championship, the first defeat for this crew since January. Unlike Atlas, things are going smoothly for the club from Honduras.
When looking at their road events, Olimpia has a very high percentage of victories, eight in the previous ten, which boosts their morale ahead of Tuesday’s clash.
The hosts are deflated and hurt by various problems, while the guests come to Guadalajara to steal time on the field and finish the business. That’s why we don’t expect to see some action and drama in this event.

The Haitian champs made enough sensations this year, and it appears that their fantastic adventure is over. Club Leon was victorious in the first leg, beating the rivals 5-0, so the rematch is a formality.
Both of these units like to play open and offensive-minded football. Violette will go after a win at home, that’s for sure, while on the other side, the Mexicans won’t play with their best lineup, preserving the top players for later challenges.
That should increase the chances of a high-scoring affair. Violette should be able to net at least once, and Leon is very gifted when it comes to scoring, therefore, plenty of goals on both ends is something expected in Haiti.

LAFC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
Where: Banc of California Stadium, LA
When: Tuesday, April 11, 2023
An MLS matchup in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals saw one side dominating the other during the opening 90 minutes. The MLS champs, LAFC, rolled over the Whitecaps in Canada, 0-3, sending a strong message to all the other rivals in the competition.
The hosts are slowly reaching their desired form. LAFC didn’t start the season as furious as some expected, but with time passing, they are getting better and better. FC has just one loss in the last nine events, while at home, the black and gold have four wins in five contests.
Vancouver is struggling to find a proper formula and start winning. Their results are mixed, and the Canadians are still creating chemistry, so nobody expects them to do anything noticeable in LA.

Atlas vs. Philadelphia Union
Where: Estadio Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico
When: Wednesday, April 12, 2023
We won’t take too much of your time here. Philly won the first leg, 1-0, after 90 minutes of a violent and tough battle. We saw a red card, a late penalty, and lots of professional fouls on the pitch.
There is no reason to see anything different in Mexico, and given the fact that both teams play defensive-minded and inefficient football, nobody expects to see more than a couple of goals in this one.

UNAL Tigres vs. Motagua
Where: Estadio Universitario, San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico
When: Wednesday, April 12, 2023
The Mexicans survived the first leg in Honduras and, furthermore, won that clash 1-0. It wasn’t a pleasant event to watch, but the Tigers overcame all the adversities and returned home with an extremely positive score.
They have been terrible in Liga MX in recent times, but it appears that Marco Antonio "Chima" Ruiz decided to put all the energy into the Champions League and go after the title while sacrificing other competitions.
They shouldn’t lose at home against Motagua, with frenetic fans supporting them throughout all 90 minutes.

2021 CONCACAF Champions League Odds for the Quarter-Finals 2nd Leg Matches
Previous Betting News
Atlanta United has a huge challenge versus Philadelphia Union. Atlanta bombed in the first-leg of their two-leg CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals aggregate. Philadelphia Union could coast on Tuesday. In the other CONCACAF Champions League match on May 4, Toronto FC hosts Cruz Azul with, like Atlanta United, a lot of work to do. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming matches so you can bet against their CONCACAF Champions League odds.
CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals: 2nd Leg Matches Betting Preview
Atlanta United FC Vs Philadelphia Union
- When: Tuesday, May 4th
For Atlanta United, the fist-leg was a horror show. Atlanta battled Philadelphia on their home pitch. But they did nothing positive. The ATL U didn’t play offense or defense well.
Philadelphia Union dominated Atlanta United 3-0.Kacper Przybylko paced Philly U with two goals. Przybylko scored a goal in the fifty-third minute. Then the Philadelphia striker got a second-goal in the seventy-third minute.
The third Philadelphia goal happened in the eighty-sixth minute when sub Anthony Fontana scored. All-in-all, Philly dominated, which is why so many believe Philadelphia Union takes the second-match.
Afterall, the second-leg happens on Philadelphia’s pitch. But before dumping on Philly, realize that soccer teams often aren’t as aggressive in the second-leg of a two-leg aggregate after dominating in the first.
Atlanta could win this match and still lose on the aggregate. That’s the way we’ll play it. Philadelphia Union has a lot of room for error. Atlanta wins the match. Philadelphia moves on in the tournament.
Soccer Pick: Atlanta United moneyline
Toronto FC Vs Cruz Azul
When: Tuesday, May 4th
Cruz Azul has 41 points in the Mexican Liga. They’re the top team in the Mexican League, which is why nobody should be surprised that Azul beat Toronto 3-1 in the first-leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals aggregate.
Brayan Angulo opened the scoring the in the third minute. Angulo scored again in the thirty-fourth minute. Pablo Aguilar added a goal in the fifty-eighth minutes.
Azul had entered in great form. They had won two and drawn versus strong squad America in their 3 matches before facing Toronto.
The MLS squad didn’t enter the first-leg playing well. Toronto dropped a match to CF Montreal on April 17 by a 4-2 score. TFC drew in their next match, but that was against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The bottom line in this match? Cruz Azul can coast to a win. But the best team in Mexican Liga doesn’t want to coast to a victory. They want to embarrass Toronto again, which is why Azul should win on the handicap.
Soccer Pick: Cruz Azul handicap
2021 CONCACAF Champions League Odds for May 5th Matches
Previous Betting News
On Wednesday, May 5, four terrific squads play in a couple of second-leg matches in the CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals. 2020 MLS Tournament Champion Columbus Crew takes on Monterrey in one match. The other match pits top MLS team Portland versus strong Mexican Liga squad America. Check out analysis, CONCACAF Champions League odds, and free picks for Columbus versus Monterrey and Portland against America.
CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals 2nd Leg Matches Betting Analysis
Columbus Crew SC Vs Monterrey
When: Wednesday, May 5
In April, Columbus beat Real Esteli 4-0 and 1-0 to march into the CONCACAF Champions League quarters. But since those two impressive wins, Columbus has played in 3 straight draws. One of the draws was a 2-2 match versus Monterrey.
The first-leg draw doesn’t favor Columbus. Last season’s MLS champs can’t draw with Monterrey on Wednesday and win on the aggregate. Such is the power of scoring goals on the road. Columbus’ form also makes them tough to back.
The Crew didn’t play well in a 0-0 draw with Montreal on May 1. Montreal possessed the ball 56% to Columbus’ 44%. Granted, the Crew may have looked ahead to this match.
Monterrey heads into this game after beating Mazatlan 1-0. Before the win, the home team had drawn with Columbus. Before the first-leg draw, Monterrey had lost 3 straight.
The form reversal could put Monterrey over the top. The Mexican Liga squad did what they had to in the first-leg. They won’t beat Columbus, but they won’t lose, either. Monterrey will force a 0-0 or 1-1 draw and knock the Crew from the CONCACAF Champions League.
Soccer Pick: Draw
Portland Timbers Vs America
When: Wednesday, May 5
Like fellow MLS squad Columbus, Portland is up against the wall on Wednesday. The Timbers dominated Marathon 5-0 on April 13. But since the win, Portland’s form has been spotty.
Portland dropped a game to Vancouver on April 18, beat Houston 2-1 on April 24, and then drew with America in the first-leg on April 28. The 3-goal loss to Dallas on May 1 doesn’t inspire.
But the Timbers may have played Dallas soft to save some energy for this match. America is a good soccer club, though. The home team in this has 38 points in the Mexican League, just 3 points behind leader Cruz Azul.
America forced a 1-1 draw in the first-leg. That was the desired result because the match happened on Portland’s pitch. The Timbers must win this straight up to take the aggregate. America won’t allow that.
America should win this by a 1-0 score. The home team is in better form, they beat UNAM 1-0 on May 2, and are feeling good. Portland must turn their form around to challenge America. The home squad wins.
Soccer Pick: America

Previous Betting News
The big news in the soccer world last week was the surprising resignation of Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, not long after leading his side to an unprecedented third straight Champions League title. Needless to say, that’s a coveted job. In America this week, the big competition is the U.S. Open Cup. It is the oldest ongoing competition in the United States in the sport. Check back for soccer odds.
Top Soccer Picks & Predictions of the Week – June 4th Edition
We are in the fourth round of the competition and it features feature four all-MLS matchups as the top-division clubs enter the competition. All 20 American MLS clubs will start play in the Round of 32. After reaching the semifinals last year, FC Cincinnati will get an early taste of MLS action as they host Minnesota United. Last week, MLS announced FC Cincinnati would join that league in 2019. Currently, it’s in the USL. The 16 fourth-round games will be played on Tuesday (one game) and Wednesday (15 matches).
The 12 third-round and 20 MLS clubs were divided before the draw into geographical groups of four. Each group contained at least one and no more than two third-round winners, with pairs drawn randomly but done so that each third-round winner faces an MLS team.
FC Cincinnati advanced with a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh also of the USL; Pittsburgh had been unbeaten at home in 2018 and hadn’t conceded a goal at Highmark Stadium. FC Cincinnati broke open a close game with two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half in third-round action. Jamaican international Lance Laing gave FC Cincinnati 2-0 advantage in the 61st minute before Daniel Haber added one in the 63rd. Jimmy McLaughlin, off an Emery Welshman assist, had given Cincinnati a 1-0 edge in the 39th minute. FC Cincinnati is now 7-1 in this competition all-time under head coach Alan Koch.
What Small Teams Are in the Tournament?
There are three lower-level teams that advanced. Premier Development League club FC Golden State Force upset the Las Vegas Lights of USL to advance alongside two other amateur teams, Miami United FC (NPSL) and NTX Rayados (Texas). As the remaining amateur teams in the competition, FC Golden State, Miami United FC and NTX Rayados are all in the running to claim the $25,000 prize awarded to the amateur team to advance the farthest in the tournament.
FC Golden State Force travels across town to play two-time Open Cup champions LA Galaxy. NTX Rayados (Open Division local qualifiers) will visit the Houston Dynamo. And, Miami United FC will host Orlando City SC. There are four all-MLS matches in the fourth round, including the Hudson River Derby between NYCFC and the New York Red Bulls. Elsewhere, Portland hosts San Jose, Chicago visits Columbus, and Real Salt Lake entertains Sporting KC.
Rather amazingly, not one game in this year’s U.S. Open Cup ended in a goalless draw (after 90 minutes or extra-time). That’s 62 games of soccer. In the first round, 99 goals were scored across 26 games. In the second round, there were 93 goals in 24 games. In the third round, 27 goals were scored through 12 games.
Here’s the full fourth-round draw with all but Philadelphia-Richmond on Wednesday. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup gets a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
