International football has changed in recent years. Between qualifying for major tournaments, we had to watch countless friendly games that really didn’t mean much.
Fans and players alike didn’t have much interest in these games, but those are now mostly gone with the introduction of the Nations League.
My CONCACAF Nations League Analysis
Europe has their league, as does CONCACAF, which is what we are going to focus on here.
We are heading into Matchday 2 with the CONCACAF Nations League, with a bunch of games coming on Tuesday.
Let’s give each game a quick preview and prediction.
^Dominican Republic vs Dominica
DR opened their campaign with a high-scoring affair against Bermuda, running out 3–2 winners.
Dominica also got their league off to a solid start with a 2-1 win over Antigua and Barbuda.
I expect another close one here.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Dominican Republic 1-0 Dominica |
Belize vs Anguila
Both of these teams have won their opening game, with both taking advantage of Turks and Caicos with matching 1–0 wins.
I like Belize at home and think they win this one going away.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Belize 3-1 Anguila |
Antigua and Barbuda vs Bermuda
Given that both teams are coming off losses in Matchday 1, it’s fair to suggest that they are both in a must win situation here.
Previous meetings have been close, and I think we get more of the same here.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Antigua 2-1 Bermuda |
Barbados Vs US Virgin Islands
This is a matchup that has been totally dominated by Barbados, who have won the last 4 against the US Virgin Islands, outscoring them 12-0 in the process.
They won their opener, and I imagine it will be more of the same here.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Barbados 3-0 US Virgin Islands |
Cuba vs Nicaragua
Nicaragua is out to a winning start, while Cuba needed to settle for a draw in their opener.
These two met up in a friendly earlier this year, with Cuba winning 1-0 on the road. I think they deliver a similar outcome in this one.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Cuba 1-0 Nicaragua |
St. Kitts and Nevis vs British Virgin Islands
It is St. Kitts who are leading the way in this group, rolling out to a comfortable win versus the Cayman Islands in their opening game.
BVI lost to the Caymans in their opener and look to be heading for another defeat here.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: St. Kitts and Nevis 4-0 British Virgin Islands |
Trinidad and Tobago vs French Guiana
You have to go back a few years to find the last meeting between these teams, with that one ending in a 1-1 tie.
They both need better here after losing their opening games in the group. I think we might get more of the same.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Trinidad and Tobago 1-1 French Guiana |
Honduras vs Jamaica
Going back through the last 5 meetings between these teams, it is Jamaica that has dominated, winning all 5 of them.
They could use a win here, as they tied their opening group game, while Honduras got to win in theirs.
CONCACAF Nations League Pick: Honduras 1-2 Jamaica |
