Games For Friday: With the opening round of group stage games at Copa America essentially going as expected, we were all waiting for the surprises to start coming.
We didn’t have to wait long, as we got ACK-to-back shock results over the last 2 days.
My Analysis
Mexico was stunned in a 1-0 loss to Venezuela, which was quickly followed y the US going down 2-1 to Panama in a game that they played a lot of with 1 man short after Timothy Weah received a first half red card.
The question now, as we head into Friday night, is whether that trend will continue. There are a couple of games to look at, with the latest odds coming from MyBookie Sportsbook. Let’s take a closer look.
^Colombia -350 vs Costa Rica +990
The goal her for Colombia is about as straightforward as it gets, which is to get the win that will book their passage into the knockout phase of the tournament.
They got things off to a winning start in their opening game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead over Paraguay in the first half before settling for a 2-1 win.
With that win, Colombia is now a perfect 5-0 in their last 5 games, outscoring the opposition 15-4 during that stretch, so it is perhaps no real surprise that they are favored by 1 ½ in this one.
With Brazil coming next, they will want to ensure their entry into the knockout phase with a win here.
While they were unable to beat Brazil in their opening game, Costa Rica still delivered a surprise by getting a 0-0 draw with the soccer giants. Costa Rica is sure to be buoyed by that result, but they are still up against it here.
They did have a couple of victories in the lead up to this tournament, but those wins came against much lesser opposition.
I just don’t see Colombia passing up the opportunity to get the win that will move them into the next round. I think they get a comfortable victory.
Copa America Pick: Colombia 3-1 Costa Rica Draw: +420 // Total O/U: 2.5 When: Friday, June 28, 6 PM EST |

Paraguay +870 vs Brazil -300
Both of these teams have to be feeling the pressure heading into the second set of games in Group D, as both pretty much need to come away with the win.
For a while, it looked as though Paraguay were going to be on the wrong end of a hammering in their opener against Colombia.
They went into the half-time break in that one down 2-0, but they did show some fight in the second half, clawing back a late goal to lose 2-1.
This, though, is a much tougher prospect, as they have been routinely outclassed by the Brazilians in previous meetings.
While there is pressure on both teams, it is fair to say that the majority of it is on Brazil after they struggled to find the net against much inferior Costa Rica team in the opening game of this tournament.
They will now face a team that they are very familiar with and that they have beaten in 4 straight meetings, outscoring Paraguay 9-0 in the process.
With their backs firmly against the wall, I expect Brazil to come out and play a lot better than they did in their opening game.
