Why are we waiting for to confirm either Vitesse or Tottenham to play in the Europa Conference League Knockout Round and how will that affect Monday’s draw?

Tottenham was supposed to play against Stade Rennais on Thursday. However, the game got postponed.

The match is important because Vitesse has 10 points in Group G and Tottenham has 7. A Hotspur victory could take them to second-place.

UEFA has not said when they will play the Tottenham – Rennais match. As far as the draw is concerned, it shouldn’t affect anything. UEFA will simply assign a TBD or TBC designation.

For example, Marseille could draw and play against To Be Determined or To Be Confirmed. Since the first Knockout Round leg doesn’t happen until February, there’s plenty of time to determine whether the TBD team will be Tottenham or Vitesse.

Before knowing the odds, which teams appear ready to win the Knockout Round and move to the Round of 16?

No doubt, we must give more weight to the third place teams from the Europa League. Name recognition will make squads like Leicester City and PSV Eindhoven the favorites to win the Knockout Round.

Leicester City, especially, will attract a ton of action. Leicester has 19 points in the deep English Premier League. They barely lost to Napoli in their Europa League match.

No doubt, Leicester will show up the favorite to not only win the Knockout Round but also the Europa Conference League.

PSV Eindhoven is just 2 points behind Champions League squad Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Ajax won The Champions League Group C.

So based on Ajax’s form, Eindhoven will also end up one of the favorites to win the Europa Conference League.

Do any of the second place Europa Conference League teams have a shot?

Slavia Prague is a decent soccer club. Depending on who they draw on Monday, they could surprise and knockout their Europa League third place opponent.

Although they’re a mess, Tottenham has more talent than most any other team left in the Europa Conference League. If the Hotspur get past Vitesse, they could become emboldened and make a great run.

None of the other second place teams appear to have the quality that Leicester, Marseille, Celtic, Eindhoven and even Sparta possess.

But we won’t know for sure until Monday’s draw. So pay attention to what happens on Dec. 13 before deciding on who you like to not only get out of the Knockout Round but to also win the Europa Conference League.
