Along with Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, and Cameroon, Ghana is one of five nations on the African continent that has qualified for the World Cup. Ghana Odds to Win the FIFA Qatar World Cup
- Ghana +24000
Morocco, Japan, and Ghana all offer +24000 odds. At such high odds, Ghana is one of the longest shots on the board to win the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Only Korea, Australia, Tunisia, home nation Qatar, Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia, and Iran offer higher odds. But although most expect Ghana to fold during group play, when it comes to massive underdogs to win the World Cup, Ghana is a decent play.
The odds are more than fair. In 2006, Ghana made it to the Round of 16. That year, Ghana finished thirteenth.
Four years later, Ghana made it to the quarterfinals and finished an amazing seventh. In 2014, Ghana lost during group stage. The nation didn’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
History says Ghana provides a decent showing. So if you’re looking for fair odds on a massive underdog, Ghana might be your team.
Why Ghana will move to the next round
Before African nations played matches to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, the two countries most everyone believed would stamp their WC tickets were Egypt and Nigeria.
Egypt didn’t qualify. Neither did Nigeria. Ghana is the team that knocked the Nigerians from the World Cup, which tells us Ghana is a solid group.
Eight Ghanaians play for UEFA league soccer clubs. That’s enough soccer talent for Ghana to move to the next round.
Why Ghana won’t move to the next round
Even though Ghana has some talented players, the African nation lands in a deep group. Portugal and Uruguay headline Group H. South Korea, the fourth team in the group, is a solid team.
Ghana must play it’s best soccer to beat South Korea. Then it must hope to get by either Portugal or Uruguay. That’s asking a lot from a team that doesn’t have a ton of depth.
Final Analysis – Ghana faces an uphill climb in Group H
Make no mistake, Ghana is a solid team. They have a real chance of finishing ahead of South Korea.
But after beating the Koreans, it will be difficult for Ghana to get by either Uruguay or Portugal. The Uruguayans are a much better team than many believe.
Uruguay no longer has to rely on Cavani and Suarez for goals. If the young players step it up, Uruguay can not only make it to the Round of 16 but they can also play into the quarterfinals and possibly even the semifinals.
Portugal doesn’t rely exclusively on Ronaldo. The Portuguese are a second-tier World Cup favorite. The European nation should have no trouble winning Group H.
If Ghana had landed in a fairer group, they’d have a shot. But beating Portugal or Uruguay doesn’t seem possible. Ghana won’t move to the knockout stage.
