Saudi Arabia Odds to Win the FIFA World Cup and Will They Move to Round of 16

From 1930 to 1990, Saudi Arabia didn’t qualify for the World Cup. But since 1994, the oil producing nation has qualified in 6-of-7 World Cup cycles. During one of those World Cups, the first in 1994, Saudi Arabia played well enough to make it to the Round of 16. Will 2022 be a repeat of Saudi Arabia’s best ever performance in the most exciting soccer tournament of the year? Or will the Saudis fail to make it past the group stage? Check out a FIFA World Cup Odds analysis for Saudi Arabia and a prediction as weather the Saudis do or don’t move on to the knockout stage.

Saudi Arabia Odds to Win the FIFA Qatar World Cup

  • Saudi Arabia +80000

80,000-to-1 odds are attractive for sure, but Saudi Arabia has never made it past the Round of 16 and when they did, it may have been beginner’s luck.

In 1994, the Arab nation played a bad Belgium side and Morocco, which has never had great soccer teams, while the Netherlands won Group F. Since then, Belgium has become one of the fiercest soccer nations in the world while Saudi Arabia has run in place.

The Saudis are a decent soccer team. But they qualified by playing in the AFC, where the rivals they had to beat in Group B were Japan, Australia, China, Oman, and Vietnam. Japan beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the last head-to-head.

So even though the Saudis had more points than Japan, we can’t even consider Saudi Arabia a better team than the Japanese. Even at +80000, the Saudis are a play against.

Why Saudi Arabia will move to the next round

Saudi Arabia has zero players that step onto the pitch for UEFA League teams, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have quality players.

Most of the players on the Saudi side play for Al Hilal, one of the most underrated teams in the world. Al Hilal is a fantastic soccer club.

Hilal is so good that in the FIFA Club World Cup semifinals this year, Chelsea struggled to beat Al Hilal 1-0. Then in the third place game, Al Hilal destroyed Al Jazira 6-1.

Why Saudi Arabia won’t move to the next round

Saudi Arabia will play teams like Argentina, Poland, and Mexico tough, but again read the last sentence.

The Saudis will play Argentina, Poland, and Mexico tough. Even if Saudi Arabia plays their very best game in matches versus El Tri, the Polish and the Argentinians, there’s no guarantee they even draw.

Final Analysis – Saudi Arabia will struggle in Group C

Group C is ridiculous. Argentina has the inside track to win the group because the team is much more than Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi.

But as long as Robert Lewandowski is healthy, the Polish will have a shot to at least finish second. So will Mexico, which appears to finally be rounding into form.

The Mexicans are tightening the screws in the CONCACAF Nations League. El Tri blasted Suriname 3-0 in their first Nations League match. By the time the World Cup begins, Mexico will be the team most peg to make it out of Group C.

Don’t get us wrong. Players for Al Hilal have talent and Saudi Arabia is a good soccer team. But they drew three teams that are just better than they are.

The Saudis coring a goal during group play will be a challenge. Drawing a match would be a massive surprise. Winning a match is close to unfathomable.
