The 2022 World Cup is underway with some very mixed feelings. Many fans are not happy with Qatar getting the gig as host for a variety of different reasons, plus a winter World Cup is a first in the history of the tournament. Regardless of those feelings, the show must go on, and you have to say that we are already off to an exciting start. The biggest storyline after the opening few days is the shocking 2-1 loss that Argentina suffered at the hands of Saudi Arabia, who went into the game as a massive underdog. On the flipside, England looked very good in a 6-2 win over Iran, but there is still a whole lot of the tournament to come. On Thursday, we will see the first pair of games in Group H take place, which includes former champions Uruguay taking on South Korea. Uruguay is in as the favorite for this one, with the goal total set at 2 ½.
Let’s take a look at the game preview for your World Cup betting Odds.- When: Thursday, November 24 at 8 AM EST

Uruguay Vs South Korea World Cup Qatar 2022
Why bet on Uruguay
Despite being a relatively small nation, Uruguay has a big history in the World Cup, hosting the inaugural event in 1930, as well as winning it, and then winning it again in 1950. They come into this tournament ranked at #14 in the world by FIFA, but this is a very tricky group, with Portugal and Ghana the other two teams in Group H. Uruguay has been in decent form in their last 5 games, going 3-1-1, although the lone loss in there, a 1-0 defeat to Iran, has to be seen as a bit of a surprise. Still, this is a team blessed with great individual talent, with Luis Suarez, in what is certainly his final appearance in the World Cup, leading the way. If you look back at those last 5 games, you see just how strong this team is on defense, as they scored 10 and surrendered just 1 in those outings.
Why bet on the South Korea
Every team in this competition understands the need to get out to a fast start. After all, history has shown that 80% of teams winning their opening game move on to the knockout stages of the tournament. South Korea lost their final qualifying game to the UAE, but since they had already long since booked their ticket to Qatar, it is one that you can basically write off. Prior to that defeat, they had won 4 in a row, outscoring their opposition 8-0 in the process. This, though, is a much tougher task than they had to face in their run to Qatar. They also won their final 2 warmup games, both by a score of 1-0, so like Uruguay, they know how to bar the door shut on the defensive side of the field. As far as scoring goes, all eyes will be on Son Heung-min of Tottenham in the English Premier League.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Opening games tend to go one of two ways. Teams are often scared to lose, which can mean a tight defensive battle, or they can go all out looking for that vital opening win. Given the strength of this group, I think the latter seems more likely. I am on Uruguay to get the win in a close one.
