Two top European squads and the best from South American lead the betting
World Cup future bettors are dumping on the top two FIFA European squads, England and France, as well as the two best teams in South America, Brazil and Argentina.
Brazil is the outright odds leader at +460. The +460 represents a +10 rise from a month ago when Brazil was the team to back to win the WC.
Action on England and France is steady, which is surprising. Neither France nor England played well in their first few Champions League matches. Both teams have the talent, but neither has coalesced as a great team yet.
The action on Argentina is close to deafening. The Argentinians started out a +1400 choice. Most believed Messi was through. But this year’s Argentinian squad is loaded with quality players and Messi has become an excellent mentor to Lautaro Martinez and the rest. Future bettors have noticed.
Spain remains favored over Germany
Like the Argentinians, the Germans are hot. Germany started a +1400 choice. Deutschland is now +1000 to win the World Cup.
At their odds, Germany remains a longer shot than Spain at +810. The Spanish have a lot of young talent. But Germany has young and experienced talent. As long as Thomas Mueller continues to play at a high-level, the rest of Germany will follow.
Expect the Germans to soon overtake Spain as the fifth choice. Once more World Cup future handicappers take notice, Germany will become one of the top five choices to win the WC.
Portugal and the Netherlands attract more action than Belgium
The word is out on Belgium. Kevin De Bruyne and his mates haven’t played their best soccer at the Nations League tournament.
The 3 goal loss to the Netherlands at home was pathetic, which might be the reason the Dutch are at +1200 and Belgium is at +1400 to win the Qatar World Cup.
The Belgians are an experienced team. The Netherlands represent youth. Bettors see that and have pounded the Dutch down from their +1400 odds.
Portugal is sort of like Germany. Their Thomas Mueller is the great Ronaldo. One of the best soccer players in history is surrounded by a solid group of young players. Right now, youth is attracting more action than experience.
Odds on top underdog Senegal drop +1200
No doubt, Senegal is the top big odds underdog. The Senegalese offered +8000 just a couple of weeks ago.
Heading into September, Senegal is a +6800 choice. The odds represents Senegal’s real shot of making it to the knockout stage. Once there, who knows?
Senegal boasts plenty of UEFA League talent, including arguably one of the top five players in the world in Sadio Mane. In 4 matches for Bayern, Mane has 3 goals. As long as Mane and the rest of Senegal’s UEFA stars continue to shine with their club teams, Senegal will attract long shot dollars.
