In about three months, the best soccer nations in the world throw down at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Soccer fans know that Brazil and England are the favorites. One team that has begun to creep into the favorite’s category is Brazil’s top CONMENBOL rival, Argentina. Lionel Messi and his teammates are the chalk to win Group C. Check out FIFA World Cup Odds on the four countries in Group C along with an analysis.

2022 Qatar World Cup
- When: Nov. 20 – Dec. 18
Favorite: Argentina -248
Based on their roster, Messi and his mates might be an overlay at -248. Save for backup goalie Franco Armani, there isn’t a player on the current roster who doesn’t throw down for a UEFA League team.
The forward position is so loaded, Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, Paulo Dybala, and Joaquin Correa are the other forwards in addition to Messi, that Lionel could spend some games taking a breather while his mates score goal after goal. Argentina is well worth backing to win Group C.
Second Chalk: Poland +450
If you want more value, Poland offers it. But although Poland has a solid team, they aren’t as deep as Argentina.
Not only that, but the Poles’ best player, Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski, is 33 years old. Lewa could struggle to keep Poland in the game versus Argentina. He may even have trouble keeping it close versus the dark horse in Group C, Mexico.
Dark Horse: Mexico +500
Mexico hasn’t attracted as much attention leading up to this year’s World Cup as it has in the past. Ignoring El Tri could be a mistake.
History says Mexico should at least make the knockout stage. The Mexicans have stamped their ticket to the Round of 16 at every World Cup since the 1994 U.S. tournament. The stretch includes tournaments in South Korea and Japan, Germany, South Africa, Brazil, and Russia.
This year’s El Tri squad includes top players from the Mexican League. Mexico said 21-year-old D.C. United goalie David Ochoa will be their captain. The Mexicans may not beat Argentina but getting past Poland and into the knockout stage is a real possibility.
Miracle: Saudi Arabia +1900
19-to-1 odds in what amounts to a four horse field makes Saudi Arabia a huge longshot. But even at +1900, the Saudis aren’t worth backing to beat Argentina, Poland, and Mexico and win Group C.
The problem for Saudi Arabia is that they don’t have good enough players to upset their three Group C rivals. The Saudis boast decent players, but this is the World Cup.
Argentina is one of the deepest teams at the Qatar WC. Poland has Lewandowski, one of the world’s top strikers, and a few other UEFA League players. Mexico boasts players from Monterrey, Cruz Azul, and America, three of the top teams in the Mexican Liga.
Almost every player on the Saudi side plays for Al-Hilal or Al-Nassr. Those two clubs are decent, but they don’t produce talent that can hang at a World Cup.
