Most World Cup experts agree that Group E will be the toughest to find a winner. Both Spain and Germany play in Group E. Heading into September, Spain is the slight underdog to best Germany. See below for FIFA World Cup Odds and analysis of the four nations that make up Group E.
2022 FIFA World Cup Group E Predictions, Favorites, and More | Soccer Betting Preview
2022 Qatar World Cup
- When: Nov. 20 – Dec. 18
Favorite: Spain -120
Spain is the current chalk to win the group, which makes sense. Few teams boast as strong of a squad as the Spanish.
El Rojo boasts top players at every level. Jordi Alba, Dani Carvajal, and Pau Torres are strong defenseman. Koke, Rodri, and Dani Olmo are excellent midfielders.
The forward position is as exciting as it gets. Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, Ferran Torres, and 19-year-old Ansu Fati are fantastic players. Also, because of Germany’s presence in this group, the odds are fair.
Second Choice: Germany +120
Spain can absolutely win Group E. So can Germany. The Germans not only offer better odds to win their group, but they’ve become one of the favorites to win the World Cup.
Germany is loaded with quality players. Leroy Sane, the ageless Thomas Mueller, Serge Gnabry and Timo Werner will ensure Deutschland scores plenty of goals.
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich has become one of the best in the world. Manuel Neuer remains one of the world’s top goalies. Also, the odds make Germany more than playable.
Dark Horse: Japan +1000
The odds imply the Japanese have a shot to win Group E. But in reality, Japan doesn’t have much more of a chance than Costa Rica.
The Japanese played great soccer to stamp their World Cup ticket. However, Japan landed in Group E. It will be close to impossible to beat both Germany and Spain.
It’s not that Japan isn’t a good soccer team. The nation has developed a strong program. But the Japanese won’t beat the top two teams in the group. The +1000 odds make the dark horse an underlay.
Miracle: Costa Rica +3400
To have any hope of making it to the knockout stage, Costa Rica must play the matches of their lives during group play. Los Ticos landed in the toughest group at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Neither Germany nor Spain is going to give an inch, which means Costa Rica must step it up big time if they hope to make it to the Round of 16. Don’t even think about Costa Rica winning Group E.
It will be near impossible to beat both Spain and Germany. Like Japan, Costa Rica doesn’t have enough good players to hang with two of the favorites to win the WC. The one advantage Costa Rica has over Japan, though, is that Keylor Navas remains the best goalie in the world.
So if you’re looking to back one of the underdogs, consider going with Los Ticos before Japan. Neither should make it to the knockout stage, much less win Group E, but at least Costa Rica boasts the best goalkeeper on the planet.
