At first glance, Group G at this November’s World Cup doesn’t look like much. Outside of WC chalk Brazil, Switzerland, Serbia, and Cameroon are okay soccer nations, but they’re not great. But a closer look reveals that even if Brazil wins Group G, there will be a scramble for the second spot. See below for a FIFA World Cup Betting analysis of every Group G team.
2022 FIFA World Cup Group G Predictions, Favorites, and More | Soccer Betting Preview
2022 Qatar World Cup
- When: Nov. 20 – Dec. 18
Favorite: Brazil -227
The South American soccer power will head to the Qatar World Cup the most talented, deepest, and one of the most experienced teams in the tournament. Brazil is so deep that top striker Neymar may get few touches each game and the Brazilians should still win their group contests by at at least 2 goals.
Richarlison, Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus, and Vinicius Junior all play on top UEFA League teams. Goalkeeper Allison sits in the net for Premier League power Liverpool. Casemiro, Fabinho, and Fred will man the middle.
Even at the -227 odds, Brazil is the best play to win Group G. If you like the Brazilians, don’t hesitate to accept the odds.
Second Choice: Switzerland +450
The Swiss are a solid squad. Not known as a world soccer power, Switzerland boasts enough players to encourage a bet to move to the second round.
If Brazil falters, a big if, Switzerland could end up the team to pick up the pieces. Grani Xhaka plays for Arsenal, Ruben Vargas is an Augsburg forward, and Djibril Sow is a Frankfurt midfielder.
The Swiss have enough talent to win Group G should Brazil underperform. If like Switzerland, the odds are fair.
Dark Horse: Serbia +550
Like the Swiss, the Serbs offer fair odds to win Group G. Also like the Swiss, Serbia will win Group G only if the Brazilians falter.
Unlike the Swiss, Serbia boasts enough talent to at least finish second behind Brazil and stamp their ticket to the knockout stage. More players step onto pitches for UEFA League teams for Serbia than they do for Switzerland.
Some of the top players include Fiorentina forward Luka Jovic, Marko Grujic, a Porto midfielder, and Benfica defenseman Mihailo Ristic.
Midfielders Dusan Tadic, who plays for Ajax and will serve as Serbia’s captain, and Juventus midfielder Filip Kostic are also worth mentioning. The odds on Serbia make them a slightly better play to upset Brazil.
Miracle: Cameroon +1200
Heading into the 2022 Qatar World Cup, no African team will turn as many heads as Senegal. One of the top five players in the world puts on the cleats for Senegal, Sadio Mane.
But although Cameroon isn’t as good as Senegal, the +1200 miracle shot to win Group G is Africa’s second best team. Cameroon has some decent players like Montpellier defender Ambroise Oyongo and Hellas Verona midfielder Martin Hongla.
The underdog’s best chance is to hope their three Group G rivals underperform and Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting plays like he’s a decade younger than his 33.
If that happens, who knows? Maybe, Cameroon is the team to upset mighty Brazil. The odds are decent. So if you like the African Nation, go for it.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
