World Cup Group H Odds
Favorite: Portugal
A single glance at Portugal’s World Cup roster and it’s obvious Ronaldo and his mates can win the 2022 Qatar World Cup. First, there’s the man himself, Christiano Ronaldo.
Although not nearly as dominant as he was in the early days, Ronaldo remains one of the most gifted strikers on earth. The Man United bench warmer is at the tail end of his club career.
But he has enough in the tank to help Portugal to a WC title run. The 2022 Portuguese mustn’t rely on Ronaldo for assists or goals.
Bruno Fernandes is one of the top midfielders in the world. Fernandes will set up Jao Felix and Diogo Jota before he sets up Ronaldo.
The Portuguese can use Ronaldo as a decoy or set up Ronaldo by using Felix and Jota as decoys. Portugal is a strong team and the odds make them more than playable to win Group H.
Upset: Republic of Korea
If South Korea were to upset both Portugal and Uruguay and win the group, we’d have to call it one of the greatest upsets in World Cup Group Stage history. The South Koreans have some quality players.
Who wouldn’t want Tottenham forward/midfielder Son Heung-min on their team? But Heung-min is a single player and, no doubt, he’s Korea’s best player.
South Korea is a decent team, but they’ve fallen into a tough group. Ghana has a better shot of taking down the Portuguese and Uruguayans than the Koreans.
Dark Horse: Ghana
Ghana doesn’t boast as much talent as AFC rival Senegal. But the Ghanaians boast enough UEFA players that if both Uruguay and Portugal end up playing worse than expected, Ghana can swoop in and win Group H.
Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew is a great player. Arsenal mid Thomas Partey and Leicester defender Daniel Amartey will ensure Ghana is competitive.
The Ghanaians shouldn’t win the group. But if you want to back the team with the likeliest chance after Uruguay and Portugal, it’s Ghana.
Predicted Winner: Uruguay | Predicted Second Place: Portugal
Portugal should be the chalk. Overall, the Portuguese boast the best players of any team in the group. But although true, Uruguay is the pick to win Group H.
Few nations will enter the Qatar World Cup with a mix of old and new quite like Uruguay. Both Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez are 35 but neither must be the focal point of Uruguay’s attack.
Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez are excellent players. Opponents must mark both, which means Suarez and Cavani could roam free.
Even at 35, Edison and Luis will be difficult to deal with. Then there’s 36 year old Diego Godin, the most capped player in Uruguayan history.
Godin is another one of those north of 30 players that Uruguay mustn’t rely on but can rely on when required. Uruguay will win Group H. Portugal finishes second.
