1. England is due

The last time the English won the World Cup was 1966. England’s best finish since then was fourth-place in 1990 after losing to Italy and fourth-place in 2018 after falling to Belgium. 

Most expect England to at least make the semifinals at the last World Cup. England and their fans believe they are due. The English have struggled in the WC for too long. So some luck should go their way in November. 

2. No roster is as deep as England’s

The English have one of the deepest rosters of any WC qualifying squad. Most players on  England’s team play for Premier League clubs. 

Playing for Premier League teams has prepared England to take on the best in the world. The English are so deep that Man United forward Marcus Rashford may not make the final squad. 

3. The English have been preparing for the 2022 WC since the 2018 cycle

Few nations have spent as much time preparing for the 2022 Qatar World Cup as the English. England knows this is their time. The window may close after this World Cup cycle. So it’s now or never.

2. England is having a terrible Nations League

The English played four Nations League matches in June. England drew 1-1 versus Germany and 0-0 versus Italy. Both performances weren’t terrible.

But what happened in two matches against Hungary? The Hungarians blasted England 1-0 in the first match. Hungary destroyed England 4-0 in the second.

The English failed versus a worse team twice in June. That’s not a good sign. 

3. The Premier League takes a lot out of English players

England’s best players put on EPL kits. The Premier League starts in August. The Premier has so many quality teams that by the time November rolls around, many English players could be gassed.

Playing against quality opponent for months could take something out England’s players. No doubt, it’s a big concern. 

4. England has failed every time all the chips are on the line

England has failed almost every time they’ve had a chance to win the World Cup. In 1990 and 2018, the biggest failures happened.

Other failures are also worth noting. England couldn’t move past the Round of 16 in South Korea in 2002 even though David Beckham spearheaded one of England’s very best WC teams. Wayne Rooney, Beckham, and Lampard played on the 2006 team and England couldn’t move past the knockout stage.
