England an obvious underlay at +560
Soccer handicappers are right to think England has a good enough team to win the World Cup. But the English are lacking in one area, drive.
It doesn’t seem like the English care to win the WC. The 2018 team had a chance and fell to Croatia, a nation many thought England would beat.
It’s difficult seeing the 2022 team standing up to the 2018 squad. So if England couldn’t win in 2018, why would they win in 2022?
With that being written, the real reason to ditch the English for now is because the odds make them an outright second choice. England is good. They aren’t better than Argentina, Spain, or France.
All three of those teams offer higher odds than England. Right now, the English are an underlay.
France is approaching overlay odds
France was second choice to win the World Cup. England leapfrogged them so that France now offers +600 odds. While England is an underlay at their odds, France is an overlay at their odds.
The French have enough talent to win their second straight WC. Kylian Mbappe could be better in Qatar then he was at the 2018 World Cup.
Also, Karim Benzema is playing the best soccer of his career and Paul Pogba is happy now that he no longer has to play at Man United. The French should be second choice. The fact they are third choice makes them an overlay.
Money flowing to Argentina, the Netherlands, and Denmark
Argentina has fallen from +900 odds to +800 odds. The more soccer handicappers analyze Argentina’s roster, the more they realize how good the team is. If anything, odds on Messi and his mates figure to go lower than the current number.
The Netherlands was a +1600 choice. But the Dutch have played lights out at the Nations League. One of the Netherlands wins was a 4-1 beating of Belgium in Belgium. Like Argentina, the odds on the Dutch should continue fall.
Denmark hasn’t attracted at ton of support. But the Danes remains the team between the +1200 choices and the +5000 squads. Soccer handicappers realize that Denmark has a real shot to win the WC. Especially because Christian Eriksen has been one of the best players in the world in the past couple of years.
Uruguay and Senegal are the top two overlays
At +5000, Uruguay deserves a look. The Uruguayans can hang with Brazil and Argentina, which means they’re a much better team than their WC odds indicate.
Senegal at +8000 is the other team offering major overlay odds. Sadio Mane, one of the top five players in the world, puts on a Senegalese kit.
Neither Uruguay nor Senegal should win the World Cup. But if you’re looking to back a significant underdog with a lightning strike chance of taking home the trophy, give a long look to Uruguay and Senegal.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
