This game may not seem like it means a whole lot, as it doesn’t for one of the teams playing. There are many other teams that will be watching this game closely because it could mean everything for them. When the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars kickoff, the outcome of this game determines so much for many teams.
The Indianapolis Colts need this win to ensure they get into the playoffs. A loss would mean they are depending on the Los Angeles Chargers to win and a few other teams to lose. If the Colts take care of business, then they have nothing to worry about.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, on the other hand, have the chance to play spoiler in the last week of the season. A win this week would send the NFL world into a frenzy. If the Jaguars win, then the Chargers and Raiders could tie, allowing both teams to get into the playoffs. There would be no incentive to play the game for either team if the Colts lost. With all that in mind, let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive to this match so you can get all set to place your bets against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville
Indianapolis Colts Notes
At 9-7 on the season, the Colts are looking to make the playoffs once again. They were bounced last season in the first round by the Buffalo Bills. Now with Carson Wentz at quarterback, the Colts are looking to make a run this season.
They have a much better chance this season because of the man in the backfield. Not Wentz, but Jonathan Taylor. Taylor has been an absolute stud for the Colts this season. Taylor has over 1,700 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. When Taylor rushes for over 100 yards a game, the Colts are 9-1.
Carson Wentz is also having a very good season with over 3,000 passing yards and 26 touchdowns. One of the most outstanding stats for Wentz is he has only thrown six interceptions this season. Wentz has a lot of stress taken off his shoulders with good wide receivers, and a star running back.
The Colts’ defense has been phenomenal again this season. They not only ranked as one of the best fantasy defenses, but they are one of the best defenses in the NFL. They force pressure which creates sack opportunities or forcing turnovers. The Colts will need to force pressure this weekend on Trevor Lawrence to help out. The Colts have not won in Jacksonville since 2014.
Jacksonville Jaguars Notes
At the end of the day, the Jacksonville Jaguars do not have a whole lot to play for other than pride. This is the last week of their season before they head off for vacation and the offseason. This has been a season to forget for the Jaguars but also for rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. What better way to end a bad season though, than a win against a possible playoff team.
Looking at the stats, Lawrence has thrown for more yards than Carson Wentz, but the 10 to 17 touchdown to interception ratio does not look good. Lawrence will have a chance to work this offseason and put his rookie year behind him with a new head coach.
Once again, the Jaguars have so much going for them with the weirdness involved in this game. The Colts have not won in Jacksonville since 2014 and with many teams needing the Jaguars to win, it just seems fitting. Only time will tell before kickoff on Sunday.
