The Browns looked fantastic in their 30-10 preseason-opening win over the Washington Redskins. Starting quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 5 of 6 passes for 77 yards and one touchdown before giving way to backup Garrett Gilbert who went 14 of 22 for 135 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Fourth-string signal-caller David Blough added a TD toss in the win and Mayfield tossed a 24-yard TD strike to Rashard Higgins.

“That’s what they were supposed to do,” Browns first-year coach Freddie Kitchens said after his debut. “They’re supposed to get completions, big, chunk plays. And I thought we did a good job outside, inside, everywhere. It was a real nice first drive.”

Defensively, J.T. Hassell led the Browns with five tackles while Devaroe Lawrence added one sack in the win.
