Men’s NCAA Basketball Betting Picks & Options for Wednesday, Jan. 4th Games
#12 Miami (FL) Hurricanes (-6) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 7:00 PM
If any of you have ever seen the movie “The Hangover” you know that there is a great line in that movie, which is: “Never leave the table when you’re on a heater.” Well, that is what we are doing here. The Hurricanes are hot right now, and there may not be a team in the power six with a winning record that is colder than the Yellow Jackets.
Miami is winners of nine consecutive games, including victories over Virginia, Central Florida, and Notre Dame. The latter two coming in true road games. The three-headed monster of Isaiah Wong, Jordan Miller, and Nigel Pack has been incredible as of late, with Miller averaging 15.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game over his last eight contests.
On the other side, Georgia Tech looks as if they have completely checked out on Head Coach Josh Pastner. Many knew this could be a rebuilding year for the Jackets, but this team looks totally out of sync. Coming into the season, a big leap was expected from sophomore wing Dallan “Deebo” Coleman, and that has yet to materialize. The former top 60 recruits is averaging just 9.4 points per game this season and is averaging just seven points over his last six games.
Once one of the best cover teams in the nation, Pastner’s Jackets are just 9-14-1 ATS at home since the start of the 2021 season. Saturday, Virginia blew Tech off of their home court in a 74-56 game that wasn’t even as close as that score indicates. Miami is a perfect 3-0 ATS in true road games this season and is outperforming the number by +8 points per contest and a margin of victory of more than 13 points per game.
#4 UConn Huskies (-6) at Providence Friars 8:30 PM EST
The Big East is shaping up to be one of the more thrilling conferences in the nation once again this season. Xavier’s victory over Connecticut on New Year’s Eve wasn’t exactly a long shot but it was still unexpected. Perhaps the most surprising statistic about that game was that the Musketeers were able to hang with the UConn Huskies on the glass.
That will be another challenge for Danny Hurley’s team when they take on the Friars Wednesday, as Ed Cooley has arguably the best player in the Big East in his frontcourt. Former top 35 recruits and Kentucky Wildcat transfer Bryce Hopkins has taken his expanded role by storm this season, averaging a near double-double at 15.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. The undersized power forward has been even better over his last eight contests averaging 16.9 and 10.5.
Providence is more than capable of replicating the Musketeer game plan, and we have yet to see how this Connecticut team responds after a loss. Ed Cooley is 23-16 ATS as a home dog since arriving at Providence while outperforming the number by +3.2 points per ballgame.
