Kansas City Royals Betting Prediction: Road to the MLB 2023 Season

Kansas City Royals Betting Prediction: Road to the MLB 2023 Season

It seems as though the Kansas City Royals have been in rebuild mode forever. Since winning the World Series in 2015, the Royals haven’t returned to a competitive state in the American League. In looking at their 2023 roster, it looks as though this could be another long season for the American League Central team.

Kansas City Royals: 2023 Season Prediction

AL Central Prediction

Most publications have the Royals finishing in the basement of the American League Central. Much of this is due to the Royals starting staff. Brady Singer, a young up-and-comer figures to be the ace of the pitching staff. Following Singer, veteran Zack Greinke is the next best starter.

The rotation is rounded out by Jordan Lyles, Brad Keller, and Ryan Yarbrough. This is a rotation consisting of many backend starters. Other than Singer, there aren’t any pitchers that opposing lineups will fear. These guys also aren’t hard throwers, and it has been proven that hard throwers are harder for a hitter to contend with.

The bullpen is also another weakness. The Royals bullpen ended the 2022 season with one of the highest WHIPs in the league, along with a very high ERA. The addition of Aroldis Chapman looks good on paper, but probably won’t be the answer to Kansas City’s problems.

Right now, we’re going to agree with the experts. We don’t see the Royals being able to contend for a division title in 2023. With the White Sox, Twins, Tigers, and Guardians all being arguably better than the Royals, we see Kansas City finishing last in the Central race.

What’s Good About the Royals?

Although the pitching staff looks to be one of the league’s worst, the Royals have put together a lineup full of young up-and-comers. Bobby Witt Jr. looks to be one of Major League Baseball’s best young players.

Vinny Pasquatino could be a major power hitter for years to come. Pasquatino will be a 1B/DH type that could hit 30 home runs per season for years to come. Salvador Perez is one of the league’s best catchers and has tremendous power. MJ Melendez could catch or see time at DH, and he also has power potential.

There are also some other young pieces that could contribute for the Royals this season. These pieces could struggle, but the future does look bright for the Royals lineup.

How Many Games Will the Royals Win This Season?

The oddsmakers have set the Royals win total at 68.5 games. With a starting rotation that doesn’t scare anyone, a lineup full of young sluggers who could strike out a lot, and a bullpen that has struggled mightily in the past, the Royals don’t look like a team ready to contend for a playoff spot.

Most experts predict a 100-loss season for the Royals, and we find it hard to disagree with them. With the roster constructed the way it is, we just can’t see the Royals winning many games. The win total is very close, and we don’t lean one way or the other. If we had to choose, we would go with the under 68.5 wins.
