The midway point of the NBA season is upon us, and now that we are in the month of March, the trade deadline is also getting closer and closer. There are sure to be a few teams that are happy with their lineups as they look now, but also many more who will be doing some fine tuning over the next few weeks. That aside, we still have a very good idea as to which teams are likely to be making a deep run once the playoffs roll around. Things can change quickly, though, which is why it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the championship odds so that you know when the best time to wager on your team comes around. Since we are entering a new month, now is a good time to take a sneak peek at the current favorites so you can keep planning your bets against their NBA Championship odds.
Updated Odds to Win the 2021 NBA Championship
LA Lakers (+270)
As it stands right now, the defending champions are still in as the favorites to once again win it all, but will they still be in that position once March comes to an end? The Lakers are treading water with Anthony Davis out of the lineup through injury, and they will need to continue to do so until after the All-Star Game, as he is expected to be out until then. The Lakers are currently trailing the Jazz by 3 ½ games in the Western Conference and have the Clippers right on their heels. The Lakers have been playing .500 ball over the last 10 games, which is a sure sign of the importance of Davis. It’s going to be interesting to see how quickly they bounce back when he returns.
Brooklyn Nets (+300)
Everyone thought that the Nets were a potential championship contender even before they went out and acquired James Harden from the Rockets. We have not seen the big three play together as often as we might like for a variety of reasons, but the Nets are now rolling and sitting just a half game out of the lead in the Eastern Conference. I don’t think it would be entirely surprising to see them make a big move in the second half of the season and eventually become the favorites to win it all in 2021. Now may well be the best price that you get on the Nets.
LA Clippers (+500)
Looking at where the Clippers are sitting right now, you might consider them to be a bit of a disappointment, but you also have to consider that they have had some real injury issues to deal with. They are going to get healthy sooner rather than later, although there is some concern as to how quickly they can gel before taking a run at the playoffs. Still, I would be very tempted to put a few bucks on them at these odds, as I still believe them to be a legitimate threat to come out of what is a loaded Western Conference.
Utah Jazz (+700)
No one really had the Utah Jazz in as a legitimate contender at the start of the season, but you had better believe that they are there now. At 27-7, the Jazz have the best record in the NBA, as well as a 3 ½ game lead in a very strong Western Conference. What makes them such a serious threat is that they have not just been racking up wins against weaker opponents, as they have gone 15-6 versus teams with a winning record. This is a team that very much looks to be for real.
