NBA 2021 Eastern Conference Power Rankings Analysis

Written by on March 23, 2021

As the NBA season rolls on, we are beginning to see a bit of a power shift taking place. Almost from day one of the season, it has been a Western Conference team sitting atop the NBA Power Rankings, but that is changing. The Eastern Conference is coming to life and now has three teams sitting in the top three spots in the rankings. This, of course, is no indicator of how a team might do once the playoffs roll around, but it is a good way to figure out which teams are hot right now. Rather than looking at the rankings as a whole, we are going to focus in on the Eastern Conference side of things and look at the top 4 teams there right now based on the Power Rankings. Let’s get right to it so you can keep betting against their NBA odds.

NBA Power Rankings – Eastern Conference Expert Analysis

Brooklyn Nets

Perhaps the scariest thing about this Nets‘ team is that we have yet to see a lot of Durant, Irving, and Harden playing together for a variety of different reasons. Even though they have not had their top 3 available at the same time all that often, they have still managed to put together a 29-14 record and are on a run right now that has seen them won 8 of their last 10 games. If there is a little nugget of concern to be found amid their stats, it is that they are just 16-10 against conference opponents, which is a good deal less impressive than what the Philadelphia 76ers are doing right now.

Milwaukee Bucks

The moves made by the Nets have perhaps helped allow the Milwaukee Bucks to fly under the radar a little bit this season. They have not really helped their own cause either, though, as they have been very streaky at times this season, following up great runs of form with periods where they lose several games in a row. Right now, though, they are on one of their hot streaks, winning 7 straight games and 9 of their last 10, all of which has them sitting just a game and a half out of the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They are 17-7 versus teams from the East, which is solid.

Philadelphia 76ers

The standing in the Power Ranking and their current odds (+1400) to win the NBA title this season would appear to suggest that a lot of people are still not totally sold on the 76ers as a title contender. This despite the fact that they are 30-13 and have been in the #1 spot in the Eastern conference for months now. No team in the NBA has won more home games (19) than Philadelphia, so they certainly should be considered a legit threat if they hold on to the #1 spot and get home court advantage through the playoffs. The 76ers are 22-7 against conference opponents.

Atlanta Hawks

While the current NBA Power Rankings show 3 Eastern Conference teams holding down the top 3 spots, you need to go all the way down to the #13 spot to find the next team from the East in the rankings. No one would have guessed that the Hawks would be this high a couple of weeks ago, as they looked to be down and out after firing their head coach. They have made a huge turnaround with a new bench boss and won 8 in a row before finally losing last night. That run has them above .500 again and into the top 4 in the East.
