2021 NBA Betting News & Rumors July 12th Edition

Coaching Hires and Vacancies

It’s being reported that Jamahl Mosley will be the next head coach of the Orlando Magic. The Magic have a young, and up-and-coming squad that was appealing to many candidates. Mosley had been rising in the coaching ranks as an assistant in Dallas. He had a close connection with Luka Doncic, and was known as a “player’s coach”. We’ll see how he handles the youthful Orlando Magic.

The Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Pelicans are the only two teams that have yet to hire a new head coach this offseason. Wes Unseld Jr. is rumored to be the leading candidate for the Wizards position. Some coaches may be hesitant to take this job, as it’s being rumored that the Wizards may trade Bradley Beal.

As for the Pelicans, David Griffin has not given anyone any hints as to who the next head coach could be. Many around the league are saying that Griffin is making a mistake in waiting out the coaching search. We’ll see if Griffin has a surprise candidate that makes waves throughout the league.

Draft Night Trades

With the 2021 NBA Draft in just a couple of weeks, and many disgruntled superstars looking to get out of their current situations, we could see a lot of trades at or near the draft. With names such as Ben Simmons, Pascal Siakam, Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard, Marcus Smart, Kemba Walker, and others being talked about, we could see one of the most exciting drafts in history. We’ll see if any of these superstars have new homes before the end of July.

Draft Rumors

With the Pistons needing a lot of pieces to go along with Jerami Grant, it’s being rumored that they aren’t set on keeping the first pick in this year’s draft. While it’s been widely stated that if the Pistons keep the pick, that they’ll be taking Cade Cunningham out of Oklahoma State, it’s not certain that this is what Detroit will do. They’ll listen to offers from numerous teams and decide whether or not it’s worth passing up on Cunningham.

Many draft rumors are revolving around the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors own the 7th & 14th pick in this year’s draft and would also be willing to part with last year’s second overall selection, James Wiseman. The Warriors are in win-now mode, and are looking to acquire an impact player to go along with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson before their championship window closes. If the two 2021 picks, Wiseman, and future picks would be enough to entice the Pistons, the Warriors could take Cunningham and form a very formidable “Big 3” of their own.
