NCAA Men’s Basketball Top Games

  • When: Tuesday, Nov. 8

Rider Broncs at Providence Friars

Rick Pitino’s Iona squad owns Rider’s conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic. Rider finished a disappointing 12-18, behind Iona, tournament surprise Saint Peter’s, Siena, Monmouth, well, you get the idea.

Providence had a decent season. The Friars were 5 points away from eventual tournament winner Kansas. Top assist man Jared Bynum returns. The addition of former South Carolina player Devin Carter should help the Friars compete in the Big East this season. The Friars roll the Broncs.

NCAAM Pick: Providence

Milwaukee Panthers at Purdue Boilermakers

The 2021-2022 Milwaukee Panthers went 10-21 and 11-19 against the spread. We shouldn’t expect the Milwaukee team from last season to be much better this season.

The Panthers have fallen behind Horizon League squads Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Northern Kentucky, and Wright State.

Purdue must play this season without two of last season’s stars, NBA Lottery pick Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams. But although Ivey and Williams won’t hit the floor on Nov. 8, top big man Zach Edey will.

Edey averaged 7.7 boards, blocked 1.2 shots, and scored close to 15 per game while averaging just 19 minutes each contest. No doubt, Edey will get the Boilermakers off to a fast, win and cover start.

NCAAM Pick: Purdue

Mercer Bears at East Carolina Pirates

The East Carolina Pirates aren’t known as having a great basketball program. The Pirates went 15-14 last season. East Carolina depended a lot on Tristan Newton, the Pirates’ top points and assists leader.

Mercer finished 15-16 in the Southern Conference. By no means are the Bears a great team. Heck, Mercer isn’t a good team, but East Carolina should struggle without Newton. Take the points on the Bears.

NCAAM Pick: Mercer

Montana Grizzlies at Duquesne Dukes

Duquesne plays in the underrated Atlantic 10 where Davidson, Dayton, VCU, Saint Bonaventure and Richmond reside. The A-10 is deep for sure, but the Dukes are one of the worst teams in the conference.

Montana is the better program. The Grizzlies went 18-13 last season. In 2020-2021, Montana went 13-12. Don’t be surprised if Montana wins and covers.

NCAAM Pick: Montana

South Carolina State Bulldogs at South Carolina Gamecocks

New Gamecocks coach Lamont Paris starts his tenure without South Carolina’s to six scorers from last season. But although Paris is up against it, the Gamecocks could surprise in the deep SEC.

Paris convinced 2023’s top hoops recruit GG Jackson to enroll this summer. Jackson is so talented that Paris can immediately build around the superstar in the making player. Jackson should do enough in this for the Gamecocks to pull off the win and cover.

NCAAM Pick: South Carolina

Coppin State Eagles at Georgetown Hoyas

The Hoyas have a couple of interesting front court players in Qudus Wahab and UConn transfer Akok Akok. But outside of those two players, Patrick Ewing’s team is a mess.

Believe it or not, Coppin State’s roster is better. Senior Sam Sessoms averaged close to 12 points last season. Also, the Eagles play a lot of 3 guard and even 4 guard lineups. So although the Hoyas have a slight advantage inside, Akok and Wahab will struggle to keep up with Coppin State’s speed. The Eagles win this on the money line.

NCAAM Pick: Coppin State Eagles
