With many of the low to mid-major conference tournaments wrapped up, and the Power 5 conference tournaments starting up, everyone is getting anxious for Selection Sunday. In just four days, we’ll know the 68 participants in the NCAA Tournament. We’re now going to take a look at some of the favorites to win it all, and we’ll give you some predictions.
Updated March Madness Odds and Championship Predictions
The Favorites
- Gonzaga Bulldogs +400
The West Coast Conference champions now just get to sit around and wait to see who their first NCAA Tournament will be. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are sure to be a top seed and should be the overall #1 seed. With Chet Holmgren and Drew Timme leading the way, the only questions surrounding this team are about their defense and can they handle physical play?
- Kentucky Wildcats +600
This could be the most talented team in the country. John Calipari’s squad is loaded with depth and talent. Led by Player of the Year Candidate Oscar Tshiebwe, who can dominate a game on the inside, the Kentucky Wildcats can score inside or outside and can guard teams in numerous different ways. We’ll see if their talent is enough to carry them to a Final Four, or if their youth and inexperience comes back to bite them.
- Arizona Wildcats +650
When Tommy Lloyd was brought to Tucson, he figured that it would take at least a year to clean up the mess left behind by Sean Miller. Lloyd hit the ground running, and so did his Arizona Wildcats. This athletic, lengthy squad has exceeded all expectations this season. They are averaging nearly 85 points per game and can run with anyone. We’ll see if the regular season was a fluke, or if this team is for real.
- Duke Blue Devils +900
Everyone knows that this is Coach K’s last hurrah. Duke will be the sentimental favorites, and many are expecting all the calls to go their way. Duke is a very talented basketball team, led by freshman superstar Paolo Banchero. Banchero has the ability to take a game over. After coming off a loss to North Carolina in Coach K’s last game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, we’ll see if the Blue Devils can rebound, or if this is the start of a downward trend.
Predictions
This is one of the most wide-open tournament fields in recent history. Even though Gonzaga has had a great season, the Zags still have their flaws. We think that they’ll make another Final Four appearance. We also like the Kentucky Wildcats, and we think they get to New Orleans as well. Our surprise Final Four pick as of now will be the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
This team is one of the best defensive squads in the nation, and they’ve shown everyone that they can win the big game. Another surprise pick is the UConn Huskies. They’re very well balanced, and we think they can sneak into the Final Four. We do reserve the right to change our picks when the brackets finally come out, but this is what we have for now.
