Minnesota Basketball Betting Analysis
The Gophers (11-9, 3-6 Big Ten) started the Big Ten portion of their schedule at 0-6 but won their third straight game Saturday, a 77-69 home upset of No. 15 Oregon. Minnesota built a 26-8 lead and trailed for only 22 seconds in the second half after a three-point play by TJ Bamba, who had a critical bad-pass turnover with 2:59 left and Oregon down by five. Dawson Garcia drew a charging foul on Bamba with 1:18 remaining and Minnesota up by two, and that basically clinched it.
Dawson Garcia
Garcia scored a season-high 31 points, and Parker Fox recorded his first double-double as a Gopher with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Garcia was 13-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, while adding six rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists.
Dawson holds a league-best 13 20-point game performances on the season. He has had 17 double-digit point games and two 30-point games. He’s averaging 19.7 points, which ranks third in the Big Ten. His five-straight 20-point games ties Amir Coffey’s five-game production between Feb. 28 and March 15, 2019. Of those 13 20-point games, seven came against Big Ten opponents. Patterson ranks 14th nationally and second in the Big Ten in assist/turnover ratio (3.55). Patterson has 22 turnovers with 71 assists this season.

Top Players
It was his second 30-point game of the season and his fifth-straight game with 20 or more points, something last accomplished by Amir Coffey between Feb. 28 and March 15, 2019. Garcia now has 1,337 points at Minnesota, and 1,832 for his career. He passed Dan Coleman (1,317 points), Austin Hollins (1,321), Lou Hudson (1,329), and Ron Johnson (1,335) this afternoon to move into 16th on Minnesota’s all-time scoring list.
Lu’Cye Patterson
Patterson had 11 points, Femi Odukale had 10 points, five boards, and four assists, and Mike Mitchell Jr. finished with eight points and 10 assists, his most in a game at Minnesota. The Gophers wound up making 30-of-57 (.526) field goals, including 6-of-16 (.375) three-pointers, and 11-of-18 (.611) free throws, while holding a 35-26 rebounding advantage.
The Streak to consider in the MyBookie College Basketball Odds
Minnesota’s three-game Big Ten win streak is the best since winning at Penn State versus Northwestern and Michigan State from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6 last season. In this three-game span, Minnesota has averaged 77.7 points and allowed 72.3. Iowa (0:25) and No. 15 Oregon (0:22) only led Minnesota for a combined 47 seconds in the past two games.
Ben Johnson
“I’m sure people thought I was crazy when I said that we were getting better, even though we weren’t getting results. I am sure people were calling me an idiot, but I knew it because I am here and I see it every day,” Coach Johnson said of the Big Ten turnaround. “I saw who we played. We were playing top half of the league teams. For a new team, I don’t care who you are for any team, those are hard things to do. But I knew it was only making us better. And I knew if they could survive that and keep their confidence, days like this were coming because I saw every game how we have got better.”

Michigan State Betting Analysis
No. 7 Michigan State (17-2, 8-0 Big Ten) is the only team in the Big Ten without a league loss. The Spartans, who held Rutgers to 34% shooting and led for more than 33 minutes, are now 12-0 since Tre Holloman moved into the starting lineup.

Scored Points
The Spartans received 50 points from the bench, the second time this season with at last 50 points. MSU reserves have scored at least 30 points 16 times in 19 games, and at least 40 points nine times. It was the 13th time this season with at least 80 points scored overall, and Sparty is 13-0 in those games. The Spartans out-shot Rutgers (48.2% to 33.8%), the 16th time MSU has out-shot its opponent. MSU is 16-0 in those.
The Streak
MSU is off to its best conference start and longest winning streak since the 2018-19 season, when the Spartans won 13 in a row overall and opened league play with nine straight victories. Hall of Fame Coach Tom Izzo’s longest Big Ten streak in his first 29 seasons came during his first Final Four run in 1998-99, when they won 15 straight after losing that season’s conference opener on the road at Wisconsin.
The victory to Rutgers also improved MSU’s league road record to 4-0. Only the 6-0 away start during 2008-09 and a 5-0 road start in 2018-19 were better — both of those seasons featured Final Four berths and regular-season Big Ten titles. The 1999 team also holds the Spartans’ longest Izzo-era Big Ten road streak in one regular season at seven in a row.
Tom Izzo
“I’m just happy we won,” Izzo said of Saturday’s win. “I’m not excited for how we played. … We have to improve now, because it’s gonna get harder. I mean, we’re going to get everybody’s best shot.”
Jaden Akins
The Spartans are led by Akins, who averages 13.8 points. Richardson follows him at 9.8 off the bench. Jeremy Fears Jr. leads the team with 119 assists, averaging 6.26 per game. Carr averages 8.8 points, while Frankie Fidler (8.7) and Holloman (8.1) follow. Jaxon Kohler averages a team-best 7.6 rebounds. Double figures.
Double Figures
MSU is the only team in the AP Top 25 with just one player scoring in double figures, and just one of three teams in the AP Top 25 with at least 7 players averaging at least 7.8 ppg (Alabama and Missouri). MSU has four players averaging at least 8.0 ppg and 10 scoring at least 4.6 ppg. It has relied on its depth, with six players averaging at least 20.0 minutes per game and 10 players at least 10.0 minutes.
Stats to Consider in MyBookie College Basketball Odds
Michigan State averages 81.7 points and allows just 68.1. The Spartans are shooting 47.5 from the field and 28.7 from the arc. They also average 40.9 rebounds a game, which ranks them 11th nationally and second in the Big Ten. MSU has committed 231 turnovers. The Spartans rank No. 3 in the country in free throw percentage (81.3%) and No. 7 in free throws made per game (19.1). They are No. 2 in the country in fast break points per game (18.4 ppg).
^Minnesota vs Michigan State Last Meeting
The Spartans try for the season sweep as they won 90-72 at Minnesota on Dec. 4 in the Big Ten opener for both. Coen Carr scored 12 points, and Jaxon Kohler had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for MSU, which shot 53% (29 of 55) and made 11 of 22 from long range. Jeremy Fears Jr. added 10 points to go with five assists. Dawson Garcia had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Minnesota. The Gophers had their final lead, 14-12, with 12:22 to play in the first half. MSU leads the all-time series 70-58 to consider in your MyBookie college basketball odds.
