Bet on the Men’s Basketball SEC Tournament with Oklahoma vs Georgia & College Basketball Odds

Oklahoma is on the NCAA Tournament bubble as it opens play in the SEC Tournament for the first time in school history Wednesday night against Big Dance-bound Georgia, which is favored on the NCAA basketball Odds for the first-round matchup from Nashville.

The winner faces No. 6 Kentucky in the second round on Thursday. The Sooners are +25000 to win the SEC Tournament, which would solve their NCAA Tournament problems with an automatic bid.

Opening Spread/Totals Subject to Change: Georgia -3.5 (total 148.5)
Expert Prediction: Georgia 75, Oklahoma 73

At 19-12 overall and 6-12 in the SEC, ESPN currently has Coach Porter Moser’s team among its Last Four In and as a No. 11 seed in the First Four against fellow No. 11 seed Indiana of the Big Ten. Moser is in his fourth year as head coach of the program and yet to bring Oklahoma to the Dance, so he might be fired if the Sooners don’t get there. They last reached the NCAA Tournament in 2021 under former coach Lon Kruger.

Georgia

The Bulldogs (20-11, 8-10 SEC) hasn’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2015 but seems safe regardless of what happens Wednesday as ESPN has the Bulldogs as a No. 9 seed in the Dance in the East Region and facing No. 8 UConn, the two-time defending national champion, in Round 1.

These clubs met for the first time as conference rivals on Jan. 11 in Athens, and Georgia won 72-62 when OU was ranked No. 17 nationally. Dakota Leffew and Asa Newell each scored 15 points for UGA. Somto Cyril blocked four shots, including two in a second-half span when the Bulldogs stretched a 58-54 lead to 63-54. Kobe Elvis was leading OU with 14 points when he took the bench with four fouls with 8:58 remaining. He never picked up his fifth foul but didn’t score again.

Sooners Could Use Another Win

Oklahoma was on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble before winning its final two games of the regular season, and OU might have kept old Big 12 rival Texas from the Dance with a 76-72 win in Austin on Saturday.

The Sooners took the lead with under 10 minutes left and led by as many as five, but Jordan Pope converted a layup to give the Longhorns a 66-65 lead with 3:47 left. Jeremiah Fears got the lead back for the Sooners with two free throws and Duke Miles converted a three-point play with 2:42 left for a 69-66 advantage and after Arthur Kaluma hit the second of two free throws, Goodine knocked down a corner 3-pointer with 2:11 to play to give Oklahoma its largest lead of the game, 73-67.

Jordan Pope

Pope scored at the basket and Jeremiah Fears got two free throws with :16 remaining, before Pope drilled a 3-pointer with :06 left to get Texas within three, 75-72. But his 3-point attempt at the buzzer was batted away. Brycen Goodine scored 14 points and led six players into double for OU. Goodine shot .472 from 3-point range in SEC play (42 for 89) this regular season.

Oklahoma committed a season-low five turnovers and posted a 20-6 advantage in points off turnovers. OU was without starting forward Sam Godwin due to injury, and he’s in doubt on Wednesday. Senior Mohamed Wague started in place of Godwin and finished with three points, two rebounds and an assist in 13 minutes. The win for the Sooners was their third in the last five contests. The two losses in those five games came by a combined four points.

Dawgs On 4-Game Winning Streak

Georgia was on the NCAA Tournament bubble a few weeks ago after a fourth straight loss, but the Dawgs closed the season with four straight wins following a 79-68 home victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Through 119 seasons of competition, Georgia recorded its sixth 20-win regular season in program history and first since the 2014-15. It marks the fifth time in school history in which the Bulldogs have produced back-to-back 20-win seasons.

Four scorers reached double figures, headlined by sophomore guard Silas Demary Jr. and freshman forward Asa Newell’s 15 points each. Demary Jr. has scored 15+ points in each of the Bulldogs’ last eight games of the regular season, averaging 19.3 points per contest in that stretch. Somto Cyril was a force in the defensive paint, notching three blocks on the day for his seventh game with 3+ blocks.

Mike White

“Two huge in-season responses, two four-game losing streaks,” Coach Mike White said. “We didn’t lose to a bad team. I’m not sure we were favored in any of those. Y’all would have a better idea. The narrative is what is wrong with Georgia? Wheels falling off. Are you kidding me? We lost to really, really good teams. We played more top teams than any team in college basketball played. But again, it’s the best league in the history of college basketball. I mean, we didn’t even have an average loss, let alone a bad loss. We’ve taken care of business. We’ve been incredibly consistent.”

The Bulldogs’ balanced offense features seven players who have led Georgia in scoring in one or more games. Georgia has played eight games versus AP top-10 teams this season, the most of any program in the nation this season.
