The college basketball season is rolling on and we are now deep into the conference schedule. As we have mentioned before, this is when teams can either rise or begin to fall apart, as the games now tend to be a good deal tougher than what they were in the early part of the season. We are also at the point when we can realistically start to talk about March Madness and who will be in and out, although it’ll be a few weeks yet before we get talking about teams on the bubble and potential seedings. Until then, all we can do is look at the week’s schedule and select a few NCAA Basketball games to bet on that we think you should keep an eye on, so let’s get to it.
NCAAB – Best bets for January 9 to 12, 2023
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at New Mexico Lobos – Monday
If you want proof of just how tough conference schedules can be, take a look at the New Mexico Lobos. They were running hot at 14-0, but they ended last week with back-to-back losses in conference play. With that in mind, they might be happy to see a non-conference foe come to town. Oral Roberts are not going to be a pushover, though, as they are coming in with a very respectable 13-3 record, although it is worth mentioning that all 3 of their losses have come away from home. Still, with the Lobos floundering, could we be looking at a bit of an upset here?
Michigan State Spartans at Wisconsin Badgers – Tuesday
The battle for the Big Ten is on, and even more so now that Purdue has finally dropped a game. The Boilermakers are still on top of the conference at 4-1, but both Michigan State and Wisconsin are hot on their heels, sitting at 3-1 in conference play. These two teams look almost inseparable when you look at their stats, so this is one that is probably going to be tight all the way to the end. I would definitely be keeping an eye on the point spread here, as I think the Spartans can keep it close on the road.
Alabama Crimson Tide at Arkansas Razorbacks – Wednesday
This looks to be a really good SEC battle, with both of these teams sitting in the top 25. The difference, though, is that Alabama is on the rise, while Arkansas is slipping after losing 2 of their last 3, with both of those losses coming in conference play. On the flipside, Alabama is 13-2 and are a perfect 3-0 in the SEC, which has them sitting on top. The Arkansas defense is pretty solid, so this is not going to be an easy out for Alabama. I would be looking at the point total in this one, as this could end up being a defensive battle.
Minnesota Golden Gophers at Ohio State Buckeyes – Thursday
Getting into the top 25 and staying there is not easy, as Ohio State is quickly finding out. They started last week at #24, but a pair of losses will almost certainly see them drop out. This game, though, should be an opportunity for the Buckeyes to get back to winning ways, as they are hosting a Minnesota team sitting at 0-4 in the Big Ten. I like Ohio State to get the win and I’ll be keeping an eye on the spread.
