Dayton Flyers is kind of flying under the radar, but will be a dangerous March Madness team. The Clemson Tigers have won three straight games, and you know after all the talk from their head coach on teams from other conferences, they are going to be motivated on their own. Another Atlantic Coast Conference team here. The Cavaliers have not looked the part of cutting down the nets in April for much of the season, but they have one of the best defensive teams in the country. Much of the talk in the AAC this season came from their counterparts down the road in the Florida Atlantic Owls. But, the Bulls, who have won 13 in a row, are going to be the team to represent the top of the conference. South Florida will look to keep their winning ways going with games at Charlotte and Tulsa, sandwiched with a home game against Tulane to finish the regular season. South Florida is not an elite offensive team, but they play the pace they want to play, and take good shots and do not turn the basketball over. March Madness is Around the Corner

The NCAA Tournament will get underway on March 19th, as the first four games will be played. These games come after we get a bracket Sunday March 17th. The actual first round of the NCAA Tournament starts on March 21st and games all weekend. The second round will take place on March 28-31st, with the Final Four in Glendale Arizona. The games will take place Saturday April 6th, and the title game will take place on Monday April 8th.

A season ago, it was the Connecticut Huskies that took down the San Diego State Aztecs in the national title game. Connecticut disposed of Miami, and the Aztecs sent Florida Atlantic home in the Final Four. With the expectation of Miami; these programs will be back in the mix this season, with the Huskies coming in as one of the top favorites to win it all again.

The second team out of the Big 12 on this list. The Cougars are enjoying their first season as members of the Big 12. As we mentioned with Baylor; battle tested, there is no doubt about that. They have gone through their first 24 games with 18 wins and 6 losses.

The Cougars rank 19th in the country in team scoring. They are also a red hot three point shooting team with 11.6 three point shots made per game. Jaxson Robinson leads the scoring for BYU, but this is a team with tons of weapons. They have five guys scoring double figures per game.

Wisconsin Badgers

A little bit different look – coming from the Big Ten. The Badgers just lost four in a row, but still in a prime spot to get a good NCAA Tournament seed. They bounced back with a win over Ohio State, and still sit in the upper portion of the Big Ten standings.

Wisconsin is a balanced team, and a team that can make free throws down the stretch. Their defense is going to keep them in games, but hitting the shots late is the biggest question. At 50/1 – they certainly are a team that you do not want to count out for a long run in the dance.

Michigan State Spartans

The Spartans are another Big Ten team right in the middle of the mix. They have nine losses, so they will want to be careful down the regular season stretch to make sure they get in. But, as is always the case with Tom Izzo and his Spartans, dangerous in March.

The Spartans are 45th in team field goal percentage, as they are making 47.5% from the field. Michigan State is one of the most unselfish teams in America, with 17.3 assists per game. Their ability to pass the basketball could be a big key in March Madness action!

Florida Atlantic Owls

Dusty May and his Owls are coming off a Final Four run of a season ago. This year’s team has had more of a bullseye on their backs and gotten through a majority of the tests thrown at them. The Owls are battling with South Florida at the top of the American Athletic Conference.

Saint Mary’s Gaels

The Gaels have won 12 straight games. There was questions whether this team would be able to get into the big dance after they were 8-6. Now, they look like they are just getting started. The Gaels are not an elite offensive team, but have been great on the defensive side.

The other team from the West Coast Conference. Gonzaga is 18-6 on the season. Many times a West Coast Conference team with an 18-6 record would be a question mark to reach the big dance. But, Mark Few and his Bulldogs have done enough damage they will be in good shape.

While this is not the same as much talked about previous Bulldogs team of years past, they still can be very dangerous. The 12th-ranked Hurricanes (18-4) are in third place in the ACC, just one game behind nationally-ranked No. 9 North Carolina and No. 7 Virginia, but the fact of the matter is that the Canes can beat anyone on any particular night as they proved in beating a now, unranked Duke team late last month. Miami ranks a solid 78th in scoring (78.0 ppg) and an even more encouraging 48th in points allowed (66.1 ppg). The Hurricanes also shoot the rock extremely well from the field (47.9%), ranking 28th in the nation while draining a blistering 76.0 percent of their free throws (12th).

Indiana 50/1

Indiana (19-4) may be just outside the Top 25 right now, but the Hoosiers can score the ball with any team in the country as they rank 11th in scoring (84.1 ppg). Indiana has four double-digit scorers on their roster and has recorded quality wins over Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan, leading me to believe they could pull off more than their share of upsets against lesser talented offensive teams once the NCAA Tournament gets underway.

USC 65/1

No. 23 USC (18-5) is offering some fantastic value for a team that is among the nationally ranked. The Trojans are absolutely explosive offensively (84.0 ppg, 12th) and can score the ball on the best defenses in the country. The Trojans beat No. 17 Arizona in overtime in early January and have beaten a very good UCLA team twice this season. The bad news is that USC has allowed 83 points or more in all five of their losses this season. If the Trojans play any sort of defense, which is questionable at this point in the season, they could surprise!
