The college basketball landscape is a superhighway of games this week, with a ton of contests on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The opportunities to place winning wagers are tremendous, and here are a couple that should be on your NCAA Basketball Betting radar.
Men’s NCAA Basketball Betting Picks & Options for Wednesday, Jan. 11th Games
South Florida Bulls at Houston Cougars: Over 126.5 Points
This pick may come as a bit of a surprise but there are recent trends that support it. Most will look at this game and see Brian Gregory on one side while one of the best defensive teams in the nation is on the other. Gregory is a traditionally a slow-tempo style coach, but the Bulls are still scoring over 70 points per game this season while surrendering 68 to opponents.
Looking at the game purely from a metric side of things, South Florida is the best play from the American Athletic Conference in totals. The Bulls have gone over in 11 of their 16 games this season, including four of their last five.
Houston, meanwhile, is one of the worst plays in the conference, going under in 10 of their 17 games on the season. The Cougars are landing under the total by -4.7 points per game overall this year. That said, Houston had gone OVER the total in five consecutive games prior to their last contest against Cincinnati. The Cougars are still holding opponents to under 52 points per game on the season, but their offensive output has ticked up slightly lately. Bet sharp here.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (-1) at Georgia Bulldogs
The shine on the club from Starkville has seemingly worn off as the team that started the season 12-0 seems to have fallen quickly back to earth. Chris Jans’ team is just 1-3 over their last four games, finally landing a victory on Saturday over rival Mississippi. DJ Jeffries has all but disappeared for the Bulldogs, averaging just 6.8 points per game over his last five contests.
On the flip side, Georgia has started to find themselves having won four consecutive games prior to Saturday’s loss to the Florida Gators. Former Florida Head Coach Mike White was unable to lead his Bulldogs to a victory in The Swamp, which shouldn’t be all that surprising. The Bulldogs have become a team worth monitoring from a wagering standpoint, as they seem to do their best work when they are receiving points. Georgia is 4-2 against the spread this season as the underdog and is outperforming the number by +5.7 points per game, good for second-best in the conference.
Another interesting nugget is that Mississippi State is just 4-6-1 against the spread this season following a victory. The Bulldogs are basically even with the anticipated number following a win, outperforming the spread by just +0.5 points. Jans’ team’s cover in the Mississippi game was the first game the Dogs have covered since December 7th, a span of five games. The question becomes: Was Mississippi State’s early success just a function of their weak schedule? It’s starting to look that way, and the Georgia moneyline is the way to go here.
