The Connecticut Huskies will look to right the ship on Wednesday evening when they take on the Seton Hall Pirates in a Big East show of two top-half teams. Connecticut has won just one of their last five games after a 14-0 start and a top-five ranking. The Huskies enter the game as a (-3.5) favorite despite their recent struggles, with a total set at 134 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM EST from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1. It’s time to get a closer look at both colleges and how they arrive to this matchup so you can bet against their NCAA Basketball Lines.
Game of the Day: Connecticut Huskies at Seton Hall Pirates College Basketball Betting Preview
Seton Hall Pirates Overview
While other Big East teams are receiving a ton of recognition this season, the Pirates of Seton Hall are quietly putting together a decent season. First-year Seton Hall coach Shaheen Holloway has led this team to an 11-8 record during the first half of the season and a 4-4 record in league play heading into Wednesday’s matchup.
The Pirates are led by Clemson transfer Al-Amir Dawes who is averaging nearly 12 points per game while shooting an impressive 43.5% from behind the arc. Over his last three games, Dawes has averaged 17 points per game as the Pirates are 3-1 since the calendar flipped to 2023. Tyrece Samuel and Kadary Richmond currently ranks as the second and third leading scorers on the team, respectively while Richmond maintains the title of arguably the most talented player in the Big East.
Seton Hall has been fantastic at home from a wagering standpoint this season. The Pirates are an incredible 7-2 straight up at home this season and 6-2 against the spread. The Pirates are outperforming the number by a Big East-best +8.5 points per game at home this season while boasting a margin of victory of over 19 points per game.
Connecticut Huskies Overview
Danny Hurley’s team was once the best bet in the nation in terms of spread wagering. That seems like a very long time ago. The UConn Huskies have covered just a single game since their December 17th victory against Butler. Over that span, they have played seven games and achieved a record of just 1-6 against the spread. The Huskies have struggled against the spread on the road as well, underperforming the anticipated margin by -1.8 points per contest en route to a 2-3 record ATS.
The Huskies have some legitimate star power on this roster, and Adama Sanogo is possibly the best frontcourt player in the conference, averaging 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. The 6’9 forward is also an inside-out threat, shooting over 37% from behind the three-point line on the season. Speaking of shooters, Jordan Hawkins is also arguably one of the best players in the Big East. The 6’5 wing has logged six games this season with four or triples made and is averaging over 15 points per game.
If Hawkins is able to his perimeter game together and allows the Husky big men to play one-on-one on the block, this should be a game that Connecticut can win on the road.
