UMBC (5-4) is an America East program that comes off a 92-69 blowout home win over Morgan State last Wednesday. The Retrievers led 37-26 at intermission and then outscored Morgan State by a 23-5 margin over the first 5:18 of the second half to put the game away at 60-31.

Marcus Banks Jr.

Leading 40-28 at the 19:12 mark, Banks Jr. scored eight straight points to spot UMBC with their first 20-point lead. Bryce Johnson (11 points, team-high six assists) then got into the act by connecting on a pair of triples while Louie Jordan also swished a trifecta. UMBC led by as many as 32 points, the latest coming with 4:35 remaining after Alpha Chibambe’s conventional three-point play.

Jim Ferry

“We came out with a mindset to play as a team today,” UMBC head coach Ferry explained. “We guarded the heck out of them early and were connected defensively. Offensively, 21 assists on 29 makes is how we dream of playing basketball here. That’s two games in a row now that we’ve been able to play our style, and hopefully, we continue to build on that.”

Bryce Johnson

UMBC is 17th in the country in 3-pt field goal percentage (40.4). Johnson is 4th in the America East in scoring (15.9 ppg.). He leads the squad with 40 fouls drawn thus far in 2024-25 and is 25th in the country with 51 free throw attempts.

Georgetown Hoyas NCAAB Line -1800

Georgetown (6-1) trounced Albany 100-68 on Saturday as the Hoyas scored 100 points for the first time since December 8, 2021, a 100-71 victory over UMBC at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas tallied their most assists (26) since December 9, 2019, a 91-74 road win at SMU. Saturday’s game also marked the highest field goal percentage (63.1%) for GU since January 28, 2017 when the Hoyas defeated Butler 85-81 shooting 63.8% (30-47) from the floor.

Micah Peavy

With 24 points, Peavy led five players in double figures, connecting on nine field goals. He paced the offense with eight assists as seven Hoyas recorded at least one assist. Thomas Sorber notched his third double-double of the season, contributing 14 points and a squad-best 13 boards. Malik Mack tied a season-best performance with 16 points, sinking six shots from the field and an efficient 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Jordan Burks provided a spark off the bench, tallying a season-best 11 points on a 5-for-6 shooting effort.

Georgetown controlled the boards, outrebounding the Great Danes 35-25 and capitalized on the defensive intensity, tallying 28 points on 18 forced turnovers from 14 steals.

Ed Cooley

“I thought it was a hard-fought battle. I know that UAlbany is going to be a very competitive team in their league. I thought Micah Peavy in particular proved himself again as a veteran. I thought he dominated the game from start to finish until we took him out with about eight minutes to play. That’s what veterans do and he’s been in a lot of basketball games. I? thought we shared the ball and that we were getting in front of the rim. It was another game where we were just trying to stack improvement. I thought we had good balance all the way around, inside and out, but I was really impressed by how we shared the ball. We’ve got a really quick turnaround as we get back to playing here on Monday,” Coach Cooley said after.

The Rebounds

GU ranks first in the Big East in offensive rebounds averaging 14.2 per game. Sorber is third in the league grabbing 8.3 rpg with Drew Fielder and Mack following, pulling down 4.8 and 4.7 rpg respectively. Sorber’s (14.8 ppg) leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, with Peavy and Epps at 14.5 ppg a piece and Mack with 12.5 ppg. Georgetown is second in the Big East in steals and 22nd in the country, averaging 10.2 per game. Peavy is leading the Big East and ranks fourth nationally with 3.2 steals per game.

The Hoyas are 6-1 at home this year (all games have been at home). Georgetown averages 77.7 points and has outscored opponents by 14.4 points per game.

2020 Seton Hall vs Georgetown

While there have always been schools in college basketball that always seem to be good every single year, the fact that no school has been able to become a dynasty is testament to just how hard it is to win a National Championship. It certainly doesn’t help that teams need to overhaul their squad every year when players move to the NBA, but it’s probably more to do with the fact that winning every single night is a drain on every player and team in college basketball. Upsets happen all the time, but it’s also fair to suggest that we have seen more than out fair share of those surprises this season. It’s how good teams are able to bounce back from those losses that defines how good they really are. That is where the Seton Hall Pirates are at the moment, as they will be heading to the nation’s capital to try and shake off a tough loss over the weekend. The Pirates will have a tough one against the Georgetown Hoyas, so there are zero guarantees that they will bounce right back. Seton Hall are favored by 3 ½, with the point total for this one set at 146 ½.

  • NCAAB Odds: Seton Hall -3.5 / Total 145

Why bet on the Seton Hall Pirates

After a fantastic run that saw them put together a 10-game winning streak, the Seton Hall Pirates are going to need to start clawing their way back after a surprising loss to Xavier over the weekend. The Pirates went into that one as an 8 ½ point favorite, but they were played off the court in a stunning 74-62 defeat that saw them drop down to the #12 seed in the new rankings. Seton hall are now 16-5 on the season, but the good news is that they still have control of the Big East Conference, where they are 8-1 and a game up on the Villanova Wildcats in second. More good news is that they have dominated Georgetown in recent meetings winning 8 of the last 10. They are also 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games against conference opponents.

  • Three-Point Percentage: 29.63
  • Free Throw Percentage: 68.05
  • Total Rebounds: 37.10

Why bet on the Georgetown Hoyas

The Georgetown Hoyas come into this game with a 13-9 record on the season, but it has been their conference play that has been their Achilles heel this season. When going against other teams from the Big East, the Hoyas are just 3-6, which includes a 78-62 loss on the road to the Seton Hall Pirates a few weeks ago. They are not coming into this game on a very good run of form, as they have now lost 3 of their last 5, although they are coming off a weekend win. On the bright side, they are 12-5 SU in their last 17 home games against Seton Hall, but just 2-8 SU in their last 10 overall versus the Pirates. They are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9.

Team Stats

Seton Hall vs Georgetown Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

While the loss to Xavier was a tough one, I think that the Seton Hall Pirates are more than capable enough of bouncing back here. I am taking them to win and cover rather comfortably.

Prediction: Seton Hall Pirates 79 Georgetown Hoyas 68
