With all sorts of holiday tournaments taking place, it’s time to take a look at who we can bet on in Wednesday’s games.
In looking things over, we’ve found two games in the Phil Knight Invitational that we think we can bet on. Let’s preview those games, and then we’ll give you our predictions. Hopefully, we can help you win some cold, hard cash.
It’s Holiday Tournament Season, Who Should We Bet On?
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Michigan State Spartans
These two top programs will meet in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide is 4-0, while the Spartans are 3-1, including victories over Villanova and Kentucky. Their one loss was to Gonzaga, so the Spartans have played one of the nation’s toughest schedules thus far.
Where Michigan State holds the advantage over Alabama is in the chemistry department. This Spartan team is made up of mostly veteran players, while Alabama’s group hasn’t seen much action as a unit.
Jahvon Quinerly, Alabama’s star player from last season, returns to the lineup. Mark Sears, a transfer from Ohio, has played well this season. Brandon Miller, a five-star freshman, has been Alabama’s best player so far this season.
While Alabama runs a system that can put points up in a hurry, this will be the first time this season that they have run into a team that plays strong defense.
Michigan State is very physical defensively, and they rebound the ball as well as anyone. We’ll see if Alabama’s offense is better than the rugged defense played by Michigan State.
Michigan State has already been through some battles this season, while Alabama has not. Alabama has played a schedule built for easy wins, while MSU has loaded up with tough teams to make them better in march.
We think Alabama will be a slight favorite, and if they are, we recommend betting against them, as we think the Spartans win this game outright.
Portland State Vikings vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs
Portland State is riding high after beating Oregon State on Saturday night. However, their victory celebration won’t last too long, as they now play Gonzaga in the opening round of the Phil Knight Invitational. While this will be in their hometown, that will be the only advantage that Portland State has over the Bulldogs.
Gonzaga has played a brutal schedule to start the season. With wins over Michigan State and Kentucky, and their lone loss coming at the hands of the Texas Longhorns, Gonzaga is ready for the PKI. With a loaded roster, we think the Zags will be ready for Portland State.
The Vikings are 2-17 all-time against nationally ranked teams. After this one, we’re figuring them to be 2-18. We see Gonzaga being favored by at least 20 points in this one.
We like the Zags to jump all over Portland State and win by a large margin, but who we bet on depends on the size of the spread. If it’s too large, don’t hesitate to take Portland State.
