All the talk in New York this past offseason was about how the Jets managed a trade for soon to be hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Nobody really believed Rodgers would leave Green Bay and those who did didn’t think AR would choose to play for the Jets. But although Rodgers in New York will significantly boost the Jets’ Super Bowl chances, if the Jets do win the Super Bowl this season it will be because of their amazing defense.
Check out an in-depth NFL betting odds and analysis for the New York Jets’ defense during the upcoming 2023 season.

Jets’ Defensive Changes During the Offseason
NYJ head coach Robert Salah is a defense first HC. So although signing Rodgers is huge, Salah quietly made a couple of additions to the Jets already incredible defense.
First, Salah acquired Adrian Amos from the Packers to play safety. The second move was adding defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson from the Seattle Seahawks. Both Amos and Jefferson project as starters.
The Jets also used their first round pick on outside linebacker Will McDonald IV. McDonald IV will get a lot of run this season and adds depth to a great group of linebackers.
New York Jets Defensive Line Analysis
Right defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is one of the best at his position. Williams scored 12 sacks as a DT last season. He also had 35 solo tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
John Franklin-Myers must stay healthy. If he does, the left defensive end will cause havoc. Carl Lawson is solid. So if Jefferson can add anything, the unit will become one of the best in the league.
New York Jets Secondary Analysis
Amos will play free safety. D.J. Reed is a good cornerback and Jordan Whitehead is one of the better strong safeties in the NFL.
But the reason the J-E-T-S secondary ranks in the top five in the league is because Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is already one of the NFL’stop cornerbacks. Gardner had 2 picks, 51 solo tackles, and an amazing 20 passes defended as a rookie.
New York Jets Linebackers Analysis
Jamien Sherwood, C.J. Moseley, and Quincy Williams are the Jets starting linebackers. For sure, Will McDonald IV could play linebacker in the 4-3.
But Salah will place McDonald at edge to start the season behind Lawson. Still, drafting McDonald gives Salah options. As a unit, the starting three is very good. So if McDonald decides to experiment with a 3-4, he should expect dividends.
NYJ Points Allowed & Yards Allowed Per Game Range Prediction
The Jets ranked fourth in yards allowed at 311.1 per game. NYJ also ranked fourth in points allowed at 18.6 each contest.
New York should have no trouble improving upon both those stats. The Jets will allow a range of 305 to 310 yards per and 15 to 18 points each game.
Jets Yards Allowed Per Game Range: 305 – 310
Jets Points Allowed Range: 15 – 18
CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner NFL Defensive Player of the Year: +1500
Analysis:
Gardner is one of the very best defensive players in the league but Sauce’s greatness may not show up in the stat sheet this season.
Opponents went after Ahmad last season. It didn’t turn out well. Expect Gardner to have fewer solo tackles and fewer passes defended. So although Sauce is good enough to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, he’s a longshot to do so.
