NFL 2021 Season: Jacksonville Jaguars at NY Betting Analysis & Odds

The top two picks in the 2021 NFL Draft will square off for the first time in their careers, as Zach Wilson and his New York Jets will host Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Neither has had the start to their career that they had envisioned. Both have struggled throughout the season, and now they’re just playing out the final three games as neither team is eligible for the playoffs.

Something has to give in this one as the New York Jets are on a three-game losing streak, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are on a six-game losing streak of their own. After losing last week to the Houston Texans while the Detroit Lions beat Arizona, Jacksonville now owns the top pick in next year’s draft.

After facing the Jets, Jacksonville will then take on Indianapolis and New England to end the season, so in reality, this could be their last shot at another victory this season.  That being said, it’s time to check our NFL Betting analysis for the upcoming match between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.

NFL Betting Preview for Jacksonville Jaguars vs New York Jets

Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis

This will be Week 2 of the Darrell Bevell era after the firing of Urban Meyer. Bevell did bring James Robinson back into the fold last week after Robinson had been benched by Meyer. Lawrence still struggled with the offense, but without Meyer, there seemed to be a better mood surrounding the team.

Unfortunately for Jacksonville, they’re 0-6 on the road this season. While the Jets are having their own issues, the Jaguars would much rather be in the warm confines of their own stadium. We’ll see if the Jaguars can break two losing streaks on Sunday.

New York Jets Analysis

It was announced earlier this week that Jets head coach Robert Saleh had tested positive for COVID, so he will more than likely not be able to coach on Sunday. The Jets haven’t had as much negativity surrounding them as Jacksonville has, but they’ve felt the ire of the fans and the New York media all season long.

The Jets have had numerous injury issues throughout the season. Zach Wilson has missed four games, the offensive line has had numerous injuries, and Wilson’s top two targets had season-ending injuries. We also failed to mention that the Jets defense ranks as the worst defense in the NFL this season.

They’ve given up an average of over 30 points per game. With Saleh coming in as one of the best defensive minds in football, the New York media has criticized him for the defense all season long.

Prediction

We’re sure that the oddsmakers had a hard time coming up with a line for this one, but they have made the New York Jets a one-point favorite in this matchup. Both squads are 4-10 against the spread this season.

While the Jets have two wins against the spread at MetLife Stadium, the Jags have covered the spread twice on the road this season. The numbers don’t lead us one way or the other.

We’re going to go out on a limb here and go with Jacksonville. The Jets could be missing more key pieces due to COVID, so we like Jacksonville to win an ugly one by a field goal.
