First Meeting
In Week 10, the Bills crushed the Jets 45-17. Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes, Buffalo ran for four scores and the Bills’ defense intercepted Mike White four times. Allen was 21 of 28 for 366 yards with TD passes to Matt Breida and Stefon Diggs with an interception. Breida added a scoring run, as did Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie.
Why Bet on NY Jets?
The Jets nearly upset the champion Bucs last week but lost 28-24 in the final minute. New York could have clinched the game on but the Bucs stuffed Jets QB Zach Wilson on fourth-and-2 at the 7 for no gain with New York trying to seal the victory. New York coach Robert Saleh said the play should’ve been a reverse to wide receiver Braxton Berrios, but Wilson had the option to sneak it based on the look. After that stop, the Bucs drove right down the field to win.
Rookie QB Zach Wilson completed 19-of-33 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown. Wilson almost exclusively worked the middle of the field, with five of his six completions over 10 yards going over the middle for 74 yards. Berrios caught 8-of-12 targets for 65 yards and a touchdown, adding two carries for 12 yards and an additional touchdown.
Saleh said left tackle Mekhi Becton won’t practice or play this week. Becton suffered a knee injury in Week 1 and had to have surgery to clean up cartilage damage. He hasn’t returned since and will log a single game in his second NFL season. His return date was pushed back multiple times. Running back Michael Carter (concussion) was upgraded to a full practice on Thursday after missing the Bucs game. Berrios (quad) did not practice on Thursday for the second consecutive day. Fellow WR Jamison Crowder (calf) was limited again in Thursday’s practice.
Buffalo will get to play against Wilson for the first time ever on Sunday. The rookie QB is averaging 187 passing yards per game and has totaled 12 touchdowns in 12 appearances. Wilson is completing 56.7% of his passes and has thrown 11 interceptions.
The Jets have had one of the NFL’s best rushing attacks over the last two weeks. It ranks second with 211.5 rushing yards per game in that span and second with 6.82 yards per rush. The offense ran for a season-high 273 yards against the Jaguars in Week 16 and then had 150 on the ground against Tampa Bay’s No. 3 rush defense while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Buffalo has allowed a 100-yard rusher in four of the team’s six losses. It ranks No. 19 in rush defense, allowing an average of 119.6 yards per game.
Why Bet on Buffalo?
The Bills won their third in a row last Sunday, 29-15 over Atlanta. That in combination with Baltimore’s Week 17 loss clinched a playoff berth for the third-consecutive season.
QB Josh Allen rushed for two touchdowns in the win. Allen has five games with at least two rushing touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2018, tied with Jalen Hurts (five) for the most such games by a quarterback in his first four seasons in the Super Bowl era. Allen has six rushing touchdowns this season and joined Cam Newton as the only quarterbacks ever with at least five rushing touchdowns in each of their first four seasons. Allen, with 101 touchdown passes and 31 rushing touchdowns, is the first player in NFL history with at least 100 touchdown passes and 30 rushing touchdowns in his first four seasons.
Devin Singletary rushed 23 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. He had
23 of Buffalo’s 28 running back touches ahead of Zack Moss (5), finishing with 100 yards on the ground for the first time all year. Singletary has now handled 73-of-86 backfield touches over the last month for Buffalo, scoring four touchdowns in his last three performances.
Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll went heavy run in the second half. By game’s end the Bills had 15 run plays in the red zone for 62 yards for a 4.1 yards per carry average, more than three quarters of a yard over their season average (3.31). In a place on the field where the yards are hard to come by, that’s quality work.
The Bills defense is the NFL’s best unit, allowing an average of 286.5 yards per game. It ranks in top three in passing defense (No. 1, 172.9 yds/g), third-down percentage (No. 2, 32.5%), points allowed (No. 2, 17.44 pts/g) and takeaways (tied for No. 3, 30).
Buffalo is looking to win consecutive division titles for the first time since it four in a row from 1988 to 1991. The Bills have been perfect against the Jets in the last three meetings and have the chance to sweep the Jets for the second consecutive season on Sunday. Allen is 4-2 in his career vs the Jets.
