Betting 2024 NFL Season

The Detroit Lions burst onto the scene a season ago, and came within a few plays of going to the Super Bowl out of the NFC.

The Lions won the NFC North and eventually fell to the 49ers.

Now, the division has tightened up a little, with many expecting the Packers to make another step forward, and the Bears to be quite a bit better.

For more than a decade, the North had been a laughingstock because outside of Green Bay, the other teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, weren’t good.

Which teams should pro football bettors back to win the NFC North?

Let’s take a look at the NFC North and the Over/Under Picks for win totals in 2024.

Writer’s Picks for the 2024 NFC North Totals Picks

Detroit Lions 10.5

Dan Campbell has instilled toughness into this squad.

The Lions are solid on both sides of the football, boast one of the top coaches in the league, one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, and should shut down most opposing offenses.

We have seen the offense come to play, led by Jared Goff under center.

The Lions get a ton of games on turf, and that is a massive advantage for Goff.

Carlton Davis III joins Alabama rookie Terrion Arnold at cornerback.

Davis III is as good as it gets.

Marcus Davenport should have the best season of his career because he plays on the other side of Aidan Hutchinson.

Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, and Derrick Barnes are going to rock at the second level.

The defense will also benefit from one of the league’s top offenses led by the underrated Goff, who plays behind the league’s top offensive line.

The Lions roll to the division title.

We like their skill players, so if the unknowns on the defense can continue to be great, and keep the opponents offense out of the endzone, this is going to be a scary team to watch.

In the end, with a softer schedule, we will take the Lions OVER 10.5 wins in 2024.

Green Bay Packers 9.5

The expectation is Jordan Love will take another step forward and the Packers will continue to be better.

Green Bay played great football at the end of last season.

If they do make that jump, this is going to be a team playing for a chance to win the NFC.

Jordan Love is a hot pick to win NFL MVP.

His odds are lower than former Packer Aaron Rodgers’s odds to win the award.

Love is that good. He for sure can get it done, but Love doesn’t have the weapons that Williams or Goff possess.

Also, Jeff Hafley brings his defensive coordinating skills from college.

Hafley was the head coach at Boston College and will try replicate his success at the NFL level.

Sometimes that works. More often, it doesn’t.

Green Bay is a tricky team to back to win the NFC North.

We are not as sold.

10 wins for the Packers with their unknown on the receiving end, and a running back room that already has question marks.

We will take the UNDER 9.5 wins for Green Bay when push comes to shove.

Chicago Bears 8.5

It would be easy to pick the Packers over the Bears.

Most NFL experts believe Green Bay is the much better team.

A closer reveals that, overall, Chicago might have the better players along the offensive line and on defense.

No doubt, Chicago’s wide receiver room is loaded.

DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze have NFL All-Pro talent.

Allen is an NFL All-Pro.

The offensive line should be one of the better units in the NFC and De’Andre Swift is a top running back.

Caleb Williams is now the face of the Chicago Bears offense.

For a team that has struggled at the quarterback position, it certainly is a breath of fresh air to have a player with his skill set.

But, he has yet to play a National Football League game.

Matt Eberflus is a defensive coach first, which means even though the star players are on the offensive end, Eberflus is going to send a strong defense to the field.

They drafted Rome Odunze from Washington, grabbed Keenan Allen, and have D’Andre Swift as their running back.

This offense is set up for success.

A quick start is needed, as the front end of the schedule is soft.

In the end, they will win more than 8 games in 2024.

Take the OVER!

Minnesota Vikings 7.5

Someone has to finish last in the division.

This season it is going to be the Minnesota Vikings.

Justin Jefferson is going to be none too happy with how this season plays out.

The Vikings just have too many question marks, and the three teams in the division are all better than they are.

The Vikings’ roster didn’t just lose their quarterback, Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons, but also lost one of the better defensive ends in the NFL, Danielle Hunter.

The offensive line is solid. Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens, or Brett Rypien will have time.

J.J. McCarthy suffered an injury that will keep him out for the season.

So it will fall on a journeyman to get it done.

The defense is going to give up a lot of points.

So it will be difficult for Darnold, Mullens, or Rypien to keep up even though T.J. Hockenson, Aaron Jones, and Justin Jefferson play for the Vikings.

This is a team that will need many things to come together nicely for them to get to .500.

7-10 is a possibility, but we do not love 8-9 for Minnesota.

We are taking the UNDER when betting the Vikings in 2024.

There is a look at our NFC North Over/Under Picks to win.

We are expecting a great season of football out of the NFC North.

Enjoy the games, and best of luck with all your National Football League betting for the 2024 NFL season!

NFC North Odds: Win Totals and Teams O/U Picks for 2023 Season

Previous Betting News

When it comes time to start handicapping the divisions in the NFL ahead of the regular season, there are always one or two that are a little more difficult to figure out than the rest. That is very much how I feel about the NFC North heading into this season, as I’m not so sure we are going to see any one team dominate. There is also a case to be made for all 4 teams in the division, but this might be one where we need to see how things go in the early part of the season before making a full NFL betting prediction. For now, what we can do is take a look at the win totals for each team this season and try to figure out if they will go OVER or UNDER, so let’s get to it.

NFL 2023 Season Win Total Over/Under Picks for the NFC North Division

2023 NFL season | 104th season of National Football League in the United States
September 7, 2023–February 11, 2024

Minnesota Vikings

Regular Season Wins: 8.5
Over: -110
Under: -110

This may seem like a bit of a low total when you consider that the Vikings went an impressive 13-4 in 2022. Their failure to go deep in the playoffs, though, means that they are now beginning to look ahead to the future, which means dumping some talent in favor of younger guys. That said, there are still enough pieces on this team to make them competitive in the division in 2023. The window of opportunity is probably now closed for the Vikings, so expect to see a drop off this season. I see them hovering right around 8 or 9 wins, so this is a tricky wager.

Detroit Lions

Regular Season Wins: 9.5
Over: -125
Under: -101

Is there finally some light at the end of the tunnel for the Lions, who have been down in the cellar for way too long. While not too many teams would be willing to crow about a 9-8 season, it was a massive step forward for the Lions, who won just 3 games in 2021. The question now is whether they can take that next step and win the division. Given the current state of the North, going over their posted win total might just be enough to get them there. They made some nice offseason moves, and I like the Lions to go OVER.

Chicago Bears

Regular Season Wins: 7.5
Over: -131
Under: +107

There was some talk in the offseason that the Bears might be ready to move on from Justin Fields at QB, but they seem to have gone all in, as they have landed some receiving weapons that could help the cause. All too often last season, Fields was forced to run to make things happen on the offensive side of the football. It is going to be fun to see what he does with some receivers to toss to. The Bears have the potential to be a bit of a dark horse, so I am going to take the OVER.

Green Bay Packers

Regular Season Wins: 7.5
Over: -121
Under: -101

You have to go back to 2017 to find the last time that the Packers won 7 games or fewer. With Aaron Rodgers now in the Big Apple and Jordan Love set to take over the QB reins, it’s tough to know how things will play out. The receiving group for the Packers is young, so they are either going to be a ton of fun to watch or an absolute nightmare. While I don’t see the Packers being truly horrible, I think the UNDER seems most likely here.
