With so many different betting options available for the Super Bowl, it can be tough to know where to begin. For me, I tend to focus on the basic betting options first before thinking about prop bets and other wagers that might tempt me to dig into my bankroll. We have already covered the Money Line wager for the big game, but now it is time to turn our attention to the point spread. The Rams are currently in as a 4 ½ point favorite, and while the game is now just a matter of days away, those odds might shift a little in either direction, so be sure to check on potential changes as the week progresses. For now, let’s take a look at how the point spread might play out so you can bet against the Super Bowl Odds.
NFL – Super Bowl Point Spread Betting Pick
The Bengals and Rams in the Regular Season and Playoffs
Both teams put together winning seasons in the straight up department, but what about the point spread? Is there something hiding in the trends that might lead you in one direction or another when getting ready to wager on the Super Bowl? The LA Rams have been a tough nit to crack in terms of the point spread, going 10-10 ATS through the regular season and the playoffs. Making it tougher still is that they are 5-5 in home games, which is where they will be for the Super Bowl. They have covered twice in their 3 playoff games, missing the sweep by a ½ point in the Conference Championship Game. In games versus the Bengals, the Rams have gone 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings.
This has been one of the more surprising seasons and playoff runs that we have seen in quite some time, as the reality is that not a lot of people believed that the Bengals were that close to competing for a Super Bowl. The fact that they are at this point now, probably a season or two ahead of schedule, has to be a little scary for every other team. The Bengals have a ton of cap space to work with this offseason, so they are in a position to be very good for a very long time. Given what they have done this season, it would not be a good idea to write them off. They have been a fantastic bet ATS in the final few weeks of the season and the playoffs, covering in each of their last 7 games. We are now going to dig a little deeper into the ATS trends in the next section.
Point Spread Trends
There are a few current trends that might make you a little nervous if you were planning on playing the Rams to cover the spread. The one that really jumps out is the fact that they are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 playoff games that they started as a favorite. The Bengals, on the other hand, have risen to the occasion in bigger games this season, going 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games versus teams with a winning record.
Money Line Prediction
All signs would seem to point toward the Bengals keeping this thing close and covering the spread, but I am actually leaning the other way. I have the Rams to win, and now I am also taking them to cover.
