NFL Week 12 Betting: A Monday Night AFC Battle Between the Steelers and the Colts

Steelers versus Colts Preview

Just a couple of weeks ago, the disappointing Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Frank Reich. The Colts had a staff full of assistants who had previous head coaching experience, and experts expected one of those assistants to be named the interim head coach.

However, Colts owner Jim Irsay had other thoughts in mind, and he named ESPN analyst, and former Colts center Jeff Saturday as the new head coach. Since then, the Colts are 1-1 and are playing with a renewed intensity.

The Pittsburgh Steelers come into this one with a 3-7 record. Mike Tomlin’s squad is in a semi-rebuilding phase.

With a rookie starting quarterback and numerous new pieces, the Steelers are trying to finish off the season strong. Injuries have also been a key factor in the Steelers’ poor record.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Even since Mike Tomlin took over the head coaching duties for the Steelers, they’ve made the playoffs every year. As of now, it looks like that streak is going to be broken, as it doesn’t look like the Steelers have what it takes to make it to the postseason.

Kenny Pickett is now the starting quarterback, and he is playing like a rookie quarterback in the league. He hasn’t had much help, as Najee Harris hasn’t played well, and injuries have also been a big detriment to the offense.

Defensively, the Steelers have been without TJ Watt for much of the season. Even though Watt is back, this defense isn’t what it has been in the past.

They greatly miss Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is out for the season. We’ll see if the Steelers’ defense can stifle a Colts offense that has had some issues of its own.

Indianapolis Colts

Since Saturday has taken over, the team looks much better. Saturday brought Matt Ryan back into the starting lineup, and Ryan has played well in his last two games.

Jonathan Taylor is back, and has run the ball well. Even though the offensive line is still in shambles, the Colts’ offense has looked good.

Defensively, the Colts have been solid all season long. The Colts’ offense put them into some bad spots early in the season, but the defense still held strong. Playing against a rookie quarterback will be a big help to the Colts’ defense, as the Steelers’ offense has been suspect all season.

Prediction

The Indianapolis Colts come into this one as 2.5-point favorites. Pittsburgh is 3-7 against the spread in its last ten road games, and we think that they’ll end up 3-8 after this one. The Colts win this one 24-17 and keep their slim playoff hopes alive with the victory.
