Everyone may be thinking, “Why would they put Denver at Seattle on the first Monday Night Football game of the year?” Well, with Seattle more than likely not being a playoff-caliber team, that’s a great question to ask. When you consider the storylines surrounding this game, you can now see why this is the game the league chose for its Monday night showcase game.
After being frustrated with the organization, Pete Carroll, and the direction of the offense, Russell Wilson finally got out of Seattle. The Seahawks traded him to Denver for a package of young players and draft picks. Wilson will now come back to Seattle for the Monday night affair. We’re not sure what kind of reaction he will get, but we’re leaning more towards the “12th Man” jeering him throughout the night. With that being said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming matchup between Broncos and Seahawks, so you can bet against their NFL Odds.
Russell Wilson Returns To Seattle for a Battle With His Former Team
Denver Broncos
The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since 2015, and it’s probably due to their lack of offensive production over the past few years. Now, Denver has finally found their quarterback. Wilson will have Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and KJ Hamler out wide. He’ll have Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon in the backfield. He’ll be surrounded by some very good offensive weapons. Denver should finally be able to score some points this season.
The offense will be a good compliment to one of the league’s top defenses. The signing of Randy Gregory will bolster the pass rush that was already good. The Broncos secondary could be the best one in the league. Patrick Surtain II and Ronald Darby anchor this unit.
Nathaniel Hackett was brought in from Green Bay to lead the Broncos and to bring a strong offensive philosophy to the team. With Wilson at the helm of his offense, this could be a very good team.
Seattle Seahawks
Losing Wilson really hurt the Seahawks. While Seattle explored numerous options, including Drew Lock, who they acquired in the Wilson deal, they ultimately chose longtime Wilson-backup Geno Smith to lead the offense. He will still have DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett out wide. He’ll have a good tight end in Noah Fant, another acquisition in the Wilson deal. Rashaad Penny and rookie Kenneth Walker III will see a lot of action in the backfield. The skill players will be good, but can the quarterback and the notoriously bad offensive line hold up their end?
Defensively, the Seahawks have a good secondary, and they bolstered their linebacking corps in the offseason. The defensive line could be a question mark, but this unit isn’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be. This isn’t the “Legion of Boom”, but it’s still an adequate unit.
Prediction
The Denver Broncos are 6.5-point road favorites. While we think that the Broncos are the better team, we don’t think that the Seahawks are as bad as the experts make them out to be. They play in a tough division, and they’re unsure of how Geno Smith will play.
We like Denver to win the game and cover the spread in the process. They’ll head north to Seattle and win the game 28-17.
